To Peel or Not to Peel - MagicBand

I am sure this has been asked before, but I can't find any consensus. I just got my first MagicBand in the mail today (WOO HOO!) and it's enormous on me. I am able to fit both pegs in the blue holes easily with wiggle room.

What are the pros and cons of peeling the dark part off? I know once it's gone it's gone, so I don't want to be too hasty. Also, my wrist is under 6 inches around if that helps anyone. TIA! :-)

If you do it, be prepared with a very coarse nail file or some sandpaper because there will be tiny spiky rubber pieces still attached after you remove the outer band.

My wrist is just less than 6". I keep my band intact because I like it being a bit thicker. I remove the outer band for my kids but when I try on the band like that, it feels weird to me.

I peeled it off ds (3 years) band and it fit me just fine. I decided I liked the look of the dark part on me better though and decided to leave it on my band. I think it will just come down to what you want to do if you know it will fit.

I did it for the kids and then decided it fit and felt better without the outer part so I did mine too. Just filed the edges with a nail file until they were nice and smooth.

Could you try cutting it shorter first? My son is balking at losing the grey edge on his, so I am planning to cut the long end off almost to to colored part, but leave the outer piece on. If it doesn't work, then we will peel it.

I was just debating this for my 10 year old. I will try cutting it first. Why didn't I think of that on my own??

I keep the gray part on, but cut the tail of the band shorter. I have very small wrists but like the way the band looks with the gray on it. After I cut down the tail, I use a lighter to smooth the edge I cut. It melts the cut edge and makes it smooth so it doesn't rub or poke me! (If you are hesitant, the practice on the piece that you cut off first).

I peeled mine and my daughter's and I wish I hadn't. It wasn't a clean "break" and there are bits of rubber now. I couldn't cut them off with scissors and it looks yucky. It did fit so much better.
While I was in the park I saw where people had just cut off the end. I wish I had done that.

But my daughter didn't mind. She hates grey and was glad it was gone.
Her cut was cleaner than mine.

It seems like by the next time we go, they will have something different so I am looking forward to that.
If I stay at the Swan and don't get a free magicband, I will buy a cool one. I was too cheap this time.

But for cutting a clean edge, you could probably trim with fingernail scissors or maybe burn them off with a lighter.

In 2014, I just pulled off the outer band on mine, dd and ds's magic bands. It looked better that way and fit great on all of us. We had no problem with the edges.

I did last year and like others said, had to file it. But this year they came off a lot better now that the material is softer. I have tiny wrists, but decided to leave mine alone this year because I like the look of it with the outer band. I can always tear it later if I change my mind.

Cutting is such a good idea! And I have several, so if I totally ruin it, at least I have a back up :)

It is me (DH), my wife and DD who is 4. My wife and daughter could peel theirs off but they don't because I end up using their magic bands for some fastpasses since I go on a lot more rides than they do.

My MBs will be arriving today and I know that it will be too big so I was planning on peeling so it would fit on my wrist. I have been thinking that I may just "wear" it around my purse strap, if I do that then I won't peel.

I was glad to see your post, it makes me happy to know I'm not the only one worried about this kind of thing LOL

I just cut mine shorter, left the grey on, but cut it so there wasn't as much wrapped around the inside. My adult daughter did peel hers, and preferred hers that way.

TIL you could peel your Magic Band.

Pulled out my box from when they were still in testing, and lo and behold there is an entire explanation under the cover of the box explaining this. I guess I never thought to look at the underside of the box cover. Neat.

Pic for the equally clueless.
