To pack or to ship, that is the question...

We're about 3 weeks out from our trip, so I'm starting to nail down what we'll need to have while we're there. Before I go into pros/cons of each option, here are some things to know..

DD is 14 months old, but has some motor delays with her mouth/eating and can only handle a mashed potato or very small, soft pasta consistency w/food. She also has an intolerance for dairy currently, so she is drinking soy milk instead of whole. We are bringing her car seat on the plane (not optional), and have bought a dolly to wheel her car seat through the airport. We are bringing a Beco Gemini as well, and I will wear her in a back carry through the airport. We are not bringing a stroller on the plane, as we are renting one from Apple strollers. We are staying at SOG, so ME isn't an option. We'll be taking a car service from MCO to SOG (not renting a car). I'm trying to decide what to do in arranging for diapers/food/soy milk while we're there. I've already contacted Disney and know where I can get soy milk on property, but I want to have shelf-stable soy milk singles with us.

I looked on Silk's webpage for where I can buy the 18 pack singles in the Orlando area, and they're only available at a Whole Foods about 10 miles away. They're available all over the place here at home. I checked Garden Grocer - while they have the diapers, they don't have the soy milk singles or a good selection of the food she needs (she is beyond pure purees, but not to table food). Shades of Green carries some things as well, I know, but it's not a wide selection so I don't want to rely on it.

So it seems like my options are to either pack it and bring it with us on the plane, in a separate suitcase, or to gather everything she'd need here at home and ship it ourselves to SOG.

Packing: We are flying SW, and have 3 seats, so we can have up to 6 bags. DH and I only need 1 suitcase for the two of us, and 1 suitcase for DD's clothes, so it would be easy to put a silk single 18 pack, baby food, and diapers in a duffle (putting any glass in a box so it doesn't break en route). The major con to this is getting everything to curbside check in...we are meeting DH's parents at the airport, though, so it's more than likely that we'd have help. A plus, though, is that much of what's packed in that duffle would be used up at least partially, if not entirely, by the time we head home, so we have an empty(ish) suitcase for any souvenirs.

Shipping: A bit more planning up front, and then there's the what if it doesn't arrive (though that goes for baggage too). It would be an additional expense....not one that's out of reach, but potentially unnecessary.

In either case, I would pack enough diapers/food/soy milk in a carry-on to make it through a day if our luggage were lost or the shipment didn't arrive. Worst case scenario, we'd have to get a taxi into Orlando to get what we need.

I'm leaning towards packing it, even though it might be a bit more of a hassle at the airport. Am I missing an option?

I would pack what you need, since you have extra luggage allotment. There are always skycaps around to help you and luggage carts to rent, so even if your in-laws aren't able to help, you can get some.

Some of the car services include a shopping stop, so if you book one of those, you could at least stop at a grocery store or supercenter (Super WM, Super Target) for diapers, wipes and refrigerated soy milk for the fridge in your room.

Did you know that you can request items not listed on garden grocers web site? Just ask them in the comments section, they will let you know if they can get what you need.

I would pack it since you have the luggage allowance. Also on the way home you will have more room for souvenirs since you won't be taking a lot of the food and diapers back. :-)

I would pack the stuff. We did that last year but didn't bring any liquids with us. You might consider wrapping the box of soy milk in a trash bag in case for some reason one of them breaks open.

I would ship the items..

I have shipped things each trip we have been on and have never had an issue.
That being said, I ship a week ahead and I call before we arrive to make sure the packages have arrived at bell service.

That way you know they will be there waiting for you :)

I would pack everything you need and check it on the plane. I'd use a more structured bag (like a rolling suitcase) instead of a duffle though. Bag the liquid stuff in case something leaks. You'll have suitcase space for the trip back too.

Whole foods at Phillips crossing does ship. The delivery fee is a bit high but since shipping costs are determined by weight, it may be a good option. I recently had a delivery in August to WL and it worked out very well. My delivery time was 1pm and they were there at 1pm. They are very accommodating and will work with you.

We agonized about the same thing back in June with our 11 month old. We ended up packing his formula/diapers/food. It worked out well for us, and then we had extra space for our souvenirs on our trip home:)

I would pack. My son has texture issues from a weak jaw and we've come VERY far. I don't want to lose any of the progress we've made by feeding him nuggets and Mac and cheese the whole time, so I'm packing foods.

My husband is going to think I'm nuts, but he of course knows how much work we've put into variety and health for the foods we feed him. We're packing his favorite bread, oatmeal, etc.

When we get there I will have Garden Grocer bring the milk and yogurt and waters. I don't have shelf stable milk, otherwise I'd bring it! Good luck. :)
