To Infinity and Beyond - Becoming a Better DopeyBadger (Comments Welcome)

It is great to hear from you. Some seriously impressive costumes and dedication. I’m heading to MNSSHP next week and I’m quite proud of my costume but it doesn’t hold a candle to your work.

I’m curious, what do you do with all these costumes? I’ve kept every costume I’ve ever made, but it’s getting a bit excessive now. Plus there are some that I’ll never fit into again. It just seems too much to discard them. Of course, I used to say the same about my race shirts and bibs but those finally hit their tipping point and I no longer keep all of them.

Have a great time on your trip and best of luck with whatever future endeavor comes your way.

Start adding “oh biscuits!” into your vocabulary now. :) And watch this:

I’m only mildly aware of Bluey but now I want to start saying “oh biscuits!” instead of my usual “oh my gosh”. 😆

Thanks and have fun!

My costumes are mostly in storage. However we’ve pulled them out for different events. The Pua costume was reused as the cow in Wizard of Oz. The Hei Hei legs were used for the Dodo bird. We wore the Monsters costumes to a Halloween event we volunteered at. Most of the costumes I made for Wizard and Alice this year are property of the theater group. We plan to rent them out to other local theater groups as an additional source of revenue.

one of the MANY episodes that make me cry.
I watched it because my niece, who was 2 at the time, wanted me to. It was even sadder because she sat there quietly whispering "Jean Luc" to herself and pouting. 😭
Definitely seen that one. Real question is - Mackenzie or Jean-Luc is the father?
Jean Luc!

The Heeler Family's First Trip to Disney World Halloween Costumes

Finally finished the 2025 Halloween costumes. Time wise, not this bad this time around. I bought the fabric on August 10th, and I was essentially fully finished with the costumes on September 30th. So about 1.5 months in total.

Bandit

Bandit has classic Mickey Ears, a completely eaten Mickey Bar, his 1st trip button, a light-up magic band with his favorite Australian rugby team on it, and a talking Bingo going full "Mount Mum and Dad".

Chili

Chili has her Goofy Ears, has been busy collecting her Disney pins (she prefers airplanes and dogs), a barely eaten Mickey Bar, has her 1st time in Disney World button, and a Magic Band with crowns and magnifying glasses on it.

Bluey

Bluey is super stoked to be in Disney for the first time! She's got her Minnie Ears themed after her favorite Powerline with animated LEDs to appear like electrons circling the nucleus of an atom, a 1st trip to Disney button, a half eaten Mickey Bar, and a Magic Band themed after ChatterMax.

I love it so much! Can't wait to see the costumes at the party. They'll be a huge hit!

Incredible work, Billy! I can't wait to hear how the party goes and see all the photos you get. I'm sure the cast members will LOVE these! Are any bits removable for riding anything?

Thanks! The costumes are super easy to take on and off. There are hidden arm holes, and then it’s just a matter of taking the hat off. Once the hat is off, the whole thing slips off past the head as a single piece. It’s kind of like a Jelly-fish with an outer body and hollow core. The pants are separate. So if we chose to ride rides, it would be easy-ish but no one would know who we are. The whole thing is soft (made of foam) and collapsible to fit into a single large luggage each. With that being said, we are there for over a week and have 6 day park hoppers, so we aren’t pressed to get on anything. Pictures are the priority.

I should say the key to the whole design is a doughnut shape made of some really thick outer furniture foam that sits on our shoulders. It forces the fabric shell costume to maintain the cylinder appearance, but once we slip the doughnut off the whole thing folds nicely. A lot of thought went into how to balance the desire for it to hold the finished shape with actually being able to get it to Disney in standard luggage. The doughnut was made with two arches and can be folded in one direction but not the other. That’s what allows it to maintain shape but then fold into luggage.

The Mickey and Goofy hats were made the same as the Monster hats and are just a large origami fold that lays flat when disassembled. The Minnie ears yellow parts are attached with a bolt to the red band and come apart for travel purposes, and the red band is EVA foam so it can fold to nearly flat as well.
