To hold or not to hold the gate...

I'd hold it. It's a big pool area and not my job to police it.

You’re staying a a nice delux Disney hotel, heading to the pool. You use your MB to open the gate and get bum-rushed by a family running up behind yelling “ hold the gate” do you? Thinking they’re not staying at the resort? It’s a tough one.

If it’s a whole family without magic bands, hollering to hold the gate, they probably shouldn’t be there. But I’d still probably hold the gate for them, because I can’t be sure what the situation is.

If it’s just one person, I’d hold the door and think nothing of it. My husband is notorious for leaving his MB in his room, so I think he lurks by gates and waits for someone else to open it for him.

FWIW, when we’ve stayed at the Poly, I’ve never felt there were any pool hoppers. Or maybe I just don’t notice or care.

If none of them are wearing magic bands, how to they get back into their room? Somebody must have at least one magic band. Do like Dean Marino said. Don't enter, close the gate and let them go first.

I would hold the gate. As long as everyone plays nice in the sandbox, idk where they came from. Now, IF there's unbecoming behavior, I will say something and I don't care what resort they came from. MINE or elsewhere

Because too many people want to spend a pool day without paying for the hotel attached to it and it was creating overcrowding problems.

As it should be!! Let the powers that be ( and the Magic Band) do the guest check.
When I walk into the pool area, it's all about MY FAMILY. I'm not going to overthink where other guests arrived from.

My momma taught me to be polite and hold the gate. So that being said, when we stay at a Delux and I can't find a chair, because of pool hoppers, then it drives me crazy. I have seen "lurkers", full, huge bags, waiting around by the pool gates a few times. I guess I just don't understand why anyone staying at a hotel anywhere would want to schlep all your crap, kids etc to another hotel just for an afternoon of swimming.

I really like the way BC/ YC always has someone scanning each guest into the pool area.

When we stayed in July, we only received the wristbands/had our magic bands checked once! That was because we chose the most unlikely times to swim. One day it was pouring rain but no lightening so the pool was open. We figured we would likely get wet in the pool anyway, lol, so we decided to go swimming. My daughter and I had the entire lazy river to ourselves!!

But to answer the question, I probably would hold the gate. I am not the pool guard (but if the Poly needs one, I know a CM there who is qualified for the job ).

When you vacation, you will encounter lots of people.

I'd rather these people be the "hold the gate open" type of people. Seems like a much more enjoyable and stress-free environment to me.

I have to admit... I do this when guys try to hit on me and I don’t have time to manage a feeling saving blow off. I just pull out the French, smile, shrug and walk away

Can’t say I’ve ever done it at the pool though... I might have to try it! Lol
