Just got back to Nashville from 6 days with the Mouse. I travelled with my sister, her hubby, their 3 kids and their grandson. What a wild week. It was the first time travelling with a wee one and the difference is amazing. But the constant is the need to eat.
First night there was Saturday and we ate at Biergarten. First thing off the bat, no Spaten. They changed their beers very recently. I didn't even get the names of the beers, I just said I wanted the darkest one. It was quite good, like a St. Pauli Girl dark but a bit sweeter. They had rouladen this night, always a good thing. I also enjoyed the meatloaf this time. Lots of good German food and everyone found plenty they liked.
Sunday was our biggest disappointment. We did Prime Time Cafe and the service was awful. After waiting 40 minutes after our ADR, which was very early in the dinner hour, our server let us wait 10 more minutes before rushing in, saying whe would take all parts of the order at once, and disappeared. My niece's mr steak was mw. Refills were hard since as soon as our food came, she was gone forever again. I may skip this place next time for the first time ever.
Monday we did Donald's Safari breakfast and it was, as always, great. The 2 younger kids had not been with us and joined us that afternoon. At the last minute Friday before leaving we decided to all go to dinner together this night, so I checked to see what in a resort was available. The pickins were slim for 7 people. We had Kouzina, The Wave, and Grand Floridian Cafe. We went to the cafe. And what a stroke of luck that was. This place was elegant, charming, and fun. Who knew? Our server said if we wanted to change anything from what was on the menu, she would 'make it happen.' And she did. We mostly got steaks, ribeyes and strips, and they were cooked to perfection And they were huge. They came with some wonderful cheesy mashed potatoes that would have been a meal themselves, and another side. We mostly got the roasted corn. And here's where they beat the pants off Le Cel. This was a whole extra side and a huge amount of heaven. And all for one, and not going up, credit. We all got the onion soup, and it could make me forget that uhhh oh yeah, cheese soup in Canada. Then it came time for dessert, and we got 3 samplers for 2. All were wonderful, but the key lime pie was to die for. We all raved all the way back to POP (a monorail and bus ride home.
Tuesday we ate with Tigger and Pooh at Crystal Palace and had fun, but the food just isn't the main draw. It was all pretty good, but not memorable.
For our last meal, we had a late seating at Rose and Crown so we could watch Illuminations. One niece and I got the appetizer sampler, Scotch egg, a cup of potato leek soup and some beef pasties. Didn't know what they would be. Our server cut the egg in half and put the soup in 2 small bowls, a very nice touch. Foir dinner, we were all over the menu. I got the surf and turf and split the fish with the same niece for part of her shepherd's pie. My steak, an odd cut I'd had before elsewhere, was prepared to perfection. This was a thick cut, almost could be called a steak blob. It was tender and warm pink all the way through. The pie was great. The fish the nephew took care of for the most part. Dessert was mostly Scotch chocolate cake, but I got the sticky toffee pudding, a rich and tasty choice. Of course forks were flying from plate to plate, and the cake was good too. My other niece ordered a make it yourself sundae for her youngin and he had a blast turning all the ingredients into food art, then destroyed it in about 10 seconds. And we had a good view for Illuminations too. Another stellar use of a dining credit.
