To go or not to go? I'm in a pickle.

Although we live out of state, my husband and I normally visit Disneyland resort several times a year. Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen bills and time constraints it is looking like we may not get to go at all this year! :( And we especially wanted to to make it out there because of the 60th Anniversary celebration.

So here is the dilemma. We will actually be in California the first week of August for a family reunion. So we thought me might just tack on a couple days at Disney on either end of that trip. But that would put us going to the parks on a Saturday and Sunday...in August. Crazy crowds and heat! I've gone during Christmas, Spring Break, 4th of July - so I know how to deal with the crowds, I'm just really debating with whether it'll be worth it to go those two days this time.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? HELP! :confused::confused::confused:

Well according to touring plan, your first weekend would have a crowd level of 6 and 7, the second weekend would have a crowd level of 6 and 6. To me that is not all that crowded, with everything open and the park hours long, a level 6 is middle of the road. Also, I was always told not to go in August, but the last few years we have gone after the second week and it has been level fours and very manageable. The one year it got really hot, was very good for us. We come from washington, desert, most people don't think of a desert in Washington, but it is dry and hot in the summer. Well we are in the parks, 2 in the afternoon, walk on toy story, get off walk on again, walk on screaming, walk on fun wheel. Go around the whole park walk on everything, even RSR, we could not figure it out. Sun went down we went to see woc and the crowd was huge and where like what happened. When we got i. And watched the news they were saying it was 105 out, we didn't feel a thing because to us it was normal hot dry weather, so to us that was the best time of year to go.

To me, a super crowded, super hot day at Disney, is still a day at Disney! I'd go for it! :flower1:

We went in March a few years back and it was freezing and raining cats and dogs. We sill had a blast, even though we were wet and cold! But, being from Oregon......wet and cold is the norm. I went years ago during August and it was 104+ for 3 days straight. We just made sure to take breaks indoors when needed and we still had a fantastic experience (lots of water!)!

I would say go for it. I've been many times in August on a weekend and found it totally doable. I think, for crowds, spring break and Christmas were worse. So if you can hack those times of year, a weekend in August will be manageable and even fun. Just be sure to wear your sunscreen, stay hydrated and get out of the parks altogether at midday when the weather is at its hottest. Be back at the hotel pool or in your room napping from 1pm to 5:30pm.

Well we were just there in March and it got up to 34 degrees Celsius or 93 F (We are Canadian :)) for 3 days of our trip and when we went in September 2012 it was over 40 degrees C or 104 F during our trip.

Last month the resort was rated to be 8 and 9 on Touring Plans for the entire week which is much busier than when we usually go

Even though it was hot and crowed we still did all of the things that we wanted to do and we had a blast!!

So I would say go for it for sure! :thumbsup2

I totally forgot to check touring plans! 6 and 7's are totally doable!

I think the thing that was scaring me the most was the weekend aspect. August can be crazy as it is, but I always assume weekends will be ten times worse. SO GOOD to hear that it should be manageable.

I'd say go for it with fast passes and being their early I think you can get a lot done, even during the summer. Plus, it's Disneyland, I have not experienced a bad time there even on the busiest day.

If you KNOW you can't go any other time, I'd totally do it. I just couldn't be in the area without going in, even if it was crowded :)

Crowd levels of 6 are what we're supposed to experience at the beginning of our late May vacation on a Monday and Tuesday. Saturdays are actually not too bad because most passes are blocked. And August can be a good time as school starts back up for many CA schools. I'd say go for it. It'd be fun and you'll already be in the state.

Don't believe touring plans. It will probably be packed and in the 90s but you can still have a great time despite all of that. Buy one of those mini fans at target and bring a hat and sunscreen and you'll be fine. Do things indoors, like a show, during the super hot hours and get fast passes for water rides. (On splash mountain, ride up front!) You can still have a great time with the crowds and the heat. You just have to plan smart and work around the heat as much as possible and show up as early as possible.

I have a different opinion, but that's the beauty of a message board!
You mention unplanned bills, which means financial constraint if that's a concern. That alone would prohibit me from really enjoying myself.
If money is part of the worry, in addition to crowds, weather, etc.....it's not worth it to me. Disneyland is not easy on the wallet, and I think you would enjoy the vacation more if you knew you didn't have to put the money elsewhere.

I would go as long as you can afford it. We're going in August this year. I haven't done it since being an adult, but I used to go in the summer a lot as a kid. It wasn't as horrible as people make it seem. I just went on a 95 degree day a month or so ago and it was very manageable with the help of a little water and a break in the puddle park.

What was the day rated when you were able to walk on and off the rides so easily? We are going next week and it's supposed to be 4 during the week and 6 on Fri/Sat. Just curious what t o expect?
