To fax or not to fax...

Deb on her AllEars site and TourGuide Mike both have items on their respective sites stating that they've received word directly from Disney discouraging the use of faxed room requests directly to resort. They say that they've been swamped with faxes. This became official policy for WL and is unofficially discouraged at the others. They say to simply note the requests on the reservation and their assigner will take it from there.

What are your thoughts on this? I'm wondering whether I should even do it for my upcoming AK stay. They were saying that there could even be a backlash at people who do, resulting in not giving them their requests because they faxed.

I wouldn't want to do anything to hurt my chances of getting a savannah view upgrade (we couldn't afford booking that view otherwise). I'm not counting on an upgrade, obviously, we'll be happy with what we got, but I don't want to hurt my chances either.

Thanks,

IMO, if they don't want faxes, then I wouldn't fax. I do believe that there could be backlash if people fax asking for stuff esp. after the resorts have made it known that they do not want guests to do that. again this is JMO. But i can understand them not wanting to be swamped. not every guest can have the prime view rooms.

This isn't addressed to you Seattle its just an observation on this topic in general...I think that its' gotten out of hand with people asking for free upgrades. They have different room types so people can maybe afford a resort they wouldn't otherwise be able to. but you get what you pay for. if the view is that important to someone, they have to be willing to pay to be sure they get it. Otherwise they should expect to get the view that they have paid for.

i don't see how anyone could have a bad view in WDW, you're in WDW!!! :)

i hope you get your upgrade; i would think that asking at check in and not putting off the room assigner would be a better bet than faxing against their wishes.

but if you ask at check in, be prepared they may offer you the upgrade at the upgraded price.

how 'bout calling cro or wdwtravel and *asking* if faxing a room request is a good idea... i am sure they will let you know... i remember yearssss ago when we went and wanted rooms near a friend who was also checking in the same day, we were told to fax our request to the hotel's front desk and we did and got what we wanted... so, moral of my story is, if in doubt, ASK :)

They say "I can note any preferences on your reservation right now, Sir".

I DID ask.

I don't fax requests, I have CRO note them on the reservation. Never been disappointed and often been quite surprised at the results.

If Disney doesn't want faxes, I don't want to waste the time creating more for them. After all, this is 1 small way we can try to help reduce their enormous costs.

well, i just called the animal kingdom lodge (got # from allearsnet.com) and spoke w/cm nicole... i asked what the best route to take as far as room requests went... (having it noted in ressie, faxing in advance or other) and she said OTHER! she said to call the resort directly three days in advance, which is when they do the assignment, to go over the reservation with them and add any special requests and they will be happy to assist you...

so, from the "horse's" mouth (so to speak)... call three days out and have a GREAT FUN SAFE TRIP!!!
