Hello, my fellow DIS'ers! After a long absence I'm back with a new food review.

CoolDisneyCat, aka "Mom," and I spent January 21-January 28 eating and drinking our way around Disney World, and now I'm here to share our adventures with you! We debated the dining plan, the deluxe dining plan, the... no dining plan... but in the end we got an AP and a Tables in Wonderland (the artist formerly known as DDE) card.

Our restaurant choices changed (a lot) during the course of the trip, but here's where we finally ended up...

1/21: Spoodles (dinner)
1/22: Yak & Yeti (lunch); Boma (dinner)
1/23: LTT (lunch); Cape May (dinner)
1/24: Beaches and Cream (lunch); Flying Fish (dinner)
1/25: Around-the-world nosh (lunch); Marrakesh (dinner)
1/26: BCV room service (lunch); Portobello (dinner)
1/27: Jiko (dinner)
1/28: Boma (breakfast)

As soon as I get my pictures uploaded and edited, you too will be able to experience the visual delights of our Disney dining deliciousness!

Ooh cannot wait to hear all about it, that is some lineup!

We now interrupt this not-yet-begun dining review to present Part 1 in my continuing series, "Things Overheard..."

Today's episode: Things Overheard... on the Monorail

Mom to little boy (pointing to GF): That's where mommy's going to stay next time, all by herself.
Little Boy: I can't come?
Mom: No, it's just going to be mommy.
Little Boy: But this is where dreams come true!
Mom: I know; that's why mommy will be by herself! (pointing to wedding pavilion) That's where mommy's getting married next time.
Little Boy: Can I come to that!?
Mom: Sure, but we're not inviting daddy.

This has been Part 1 of "Things Overheard..." Tune in later for Part 2!

Also, finally have time to work on the pics, so expect the first actual food post to be occurring soon. :thumbsup2

We always drive down to Disney, b/c it really isn't that bad and we like to take our time. We decided to spend the night in St. Augustine so we could go to this store, Among the Flowers, and indulge my mom's Vera Bradley obsession. It was worth it. :thumbsup2

The next morning we were up bright and early to finish our trip, and we reached the Beach Club at about 1. We checked in, and after much haggling about our room location (I know requests are just *requests,* but this was the first time in the history of our Disney adventures where they hadn't honored *any* of our requests... so we haggled), we went on a long, long adventure trying to find lunch and a place to get our AP and TiW card.

Anyway. We ended up eating lunch back where we started, the Beach Club Marketplace. We were a little disappointed because the sandwiches are pre-made, and the one we wanted (roast beef) comes with mayo. We ended up with the ham, because it was plain. It was good, but cold in the middle. They use the same ovens there that we use at work, and they're a pain.

Again, anyway. For dinner we had our traditional first-night ADR: Spoodles!

Spoodles is one of our favorite WDW Dining Destinations. I was a little disappointed last time we went (see the 5/08 review in my sig), but we would never stay away!

They tried to seat us in the middle of the aisle, which we hate, so we asked if we could have one of the booths. The CM was like, "I'll have to make sure they're not reserved." Um, by whom? The place was still almost empty at that point. Mystery reservers weren't present, however, so we got our booth.

I ordered the Sangria...

121sangria.jpg

And Mom ordered this lemonade drinky from the universal drink menu. It was, er... minute maid light lemonade, vodka, and... some type of fruit juice or vodka, maybe raspberry? Can't remember...

121lemonade.jpg

Both of these drinks were yummy, fruity and refreshing. I ended up with a bad headache, tho, about halfway through the meal, so I didn't finish mine.

Our lovely waiter brought us some bread...

121bread.jpg

with the olive tepanade...

121tepanade.jpg

Extreme close up!

So delicious! The tepanade is sour and a little bit spicy; delicious olive oil... I love it!

We also ordered the dips, but I didn't get a pic of those. My favorite is the tzatziki with an olive perched on top. I don't even like olives!

For our entrees, Mom chose the pumpkin ravioli with wild mushroom pesto and balsamic reduction...

121ravioli.jpg

She loved this dish! She ate every bite. She's not much of a fan of shrooms, but she said when combined with the sweetness of the pumpkin, they were a nice earthy compliment. She liked that the raviolis were more filling than pasta, too.

I went with an old favorite, the red snapper with Israeli couscous...

121snapper.jpg

Yum. The fish has a nice crispiness on the outside, and it's cooked perfectly. I love the couscous and the tomato broth, though if anyone watched Top Chef restaurant wars, one of the judges said he hates fish in water because that's where it came from. It reminded me of this dish, but I like the tomato water. ;)

We thought we were too full for dessert, but Mom said, "Well, lemon pound cake might be ok..." I hadn't seen that one, but I was like, "Ohh, yeah, that sounds good!"

And boy, it was!

121cake.jpg

A slice of lemon pound cake topped with a sesame seed topping and marscapone whipped cream and served with lemoncello on the side. *sigh* So delicious! The whipped cream was fantastic, sweet and thick, and the lemoncello was like a light, lemony syrup that soaked into the cake. Overall, a wonderful dessert!

We always love Spoodles, and unless something drastic happens, it's a must every trip for us. This visit was one of the best we've had in a while, and we can't wait to go back!

I'm once again interrupting your regularly scheduled food review for Part 2 of my continuing series, "Things Overheard..."

Today's episode: "Things Overheard... at the Animal Kingdom"

Let me set the stage for you. I'm in Asia, at those bathrooms just down the path from Everest, the ones near the Himalayan outfitting station or whatever. These two teenage girls are standing nearby, and the following conversation ensues...

Girl 1: They, like, call it Asia, but there's, like, all this stuff from India here.
Girl 2: Maybe it's, like, India and Asia?
Girl 1 (highly skeptical): Mehbe.

This has been another episode of "Things Overhead..." Stay tuned for more food!

We usually save AK for our last day, but then we tend to skip it - it's one of our favorite parks, but we're usually worn out by the end of the trip! This trip I decided to make AK our first day park; no skipping allowed!

We got there pretty early, and Mom headed to Everest for a fastpass, while I waited for her at the Safari. After watching lions snooze and elephants bathe (don't get me wrong; I love watching lions snooze and elephants bathe!), we headed over to Asia and Everest.

We rode it twice, and by that time we were getting sorta peckish. We headed back up to Yak & Yeti. This man behind us had a party of 10, and when the hostess asked if he had a reservation, he actually laughed at her. Very rude.

Anyway, we didn't have a ressie either, but we were seated fairly quickly in a little side room.

We decided to order appetizers for our lunch, and we ended up with the friend green beans, the dim sum platter for 2, and chicken lo mein.

122yygreenbeans.jpg

Veggies? Good for you?! Fry em!

122yydimsum.jpg

122yylomein.jpg

Let's start with the beans. The menu describes them as "wok-fried," so we thought that meant slightly more tempura-like. They might've been wok-fried, but certainly not back in that kitchen. They were basically just "pour 'em outta the freezer bag, reheat, serve." They were ok, but a waste of calories. The sweet chili sauce with them was actually rather good, tho.

The dim sum basket for 2 was also slightly underwhelming. The pork sie mai (little pork bun thingies) were good, but the pot stickers (usually my favorite) were... eh. The sauce that came with the dim sum was waayy too tangy. That's the only word for it. It was overwhelming. The sweet chili sauce that came with the beans was much, much better.

The lo mein was the best part! There was a *ton* of chicken (to the point that I was wishing for a few more noodles), and the flavor was quite good. We were glad we'd ordered it - we almost hadn't - because it was really good.

Now, these 3 apps plus a diet coke and unsweet tea was... $63!?!? Holy moly!! We thought that was a bit ridiculous, and next time will probably stick to one of the tried-and-true CS places of AK. Also, they don't take the TiW card, but we did use our DVC to get a 10% discount. We also could've used the AP for a 10% discount.

Next up... Boma!! Let me apologize in advance for how blurry these pics are. I have 5 or 6 versions of each of them, and they all look the same. My photography gets better later in the trip, I promise!

We were first offered a really awful table in the middle of the aisle; we hate that, so we asked if we could wait a bit longer and get a different one. The weird part was the restaurant was pretty much full (of course), but they had an entire section closed b/c there was no server. They couldn't've called someone to cover that section on a busy night? Strangeness.

After waiting about 10 more minutes, we were shown to a table that made us *much* happier. Mom ordered her usual tea, and I got a strawberry basil lemonade off the universal drink menu...

122blemonade.jpg

From this pic you'd think I'd already drunk it! It was very, very good; nice and light and fruity. It had minute maid light lemonade, strawberry puree, basil, and vodka. Yum!

We started with soup, as we usually do at Boma...

122bpotsoup.jpg

122bstew.jpg

That's potato bacon and some sort of stew for me. I loved, loved, loved the stew. It had a fantastic peppery flavor, and huge chunks of chicken and okra and other bits of deliciousness.

Mom's plate...

122bmomsplate1.jpg

Potato bacon soup, 3 kinds of humus (one is hidden by the soup), flat bread, and cous cous. I asked her to get the cous cous; it's the cold one, and it's nice and tart and delicious. She likes the gray (olive) humus the best, and she loved her soup, of course.

122bcurry.jpg

Me again! Chicken curry soup here. I took one bite and knew Mom would *love* it. Sweet, a little spicy, big chunks of chicken. She was like, "Will I like it?" I said, "Yes, yes, try it!!" She loved it. Does she think I'd lead her wrong?? She ate most of this bowl (though not all; I was greedy!), and then got her own. She later said this soup was one of the best things she ate all week.

Ok, on to the main course. Let's start with my plate...
122bmyplate1.jpg

A huge slab of the carved meat, mac and cheese, potatoes with affritude, mealie bread, and on the other plate, cous cous and salmon.

The meat: I was concerned when ppl said they didn't have prime rib anymore, but I liked this quite a bit better than the prime rib. It still had the nice flavor, but it wasn't nearly as fatty. Overall, :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I always love the mac and cheese mixed with the potatoes; it's one of my favorites! The mealie bread wasn't as good as back in May; I think changing it to the corn muffin format wasn't an improvement. The cous cous was good, but again I didn't like the salmon.

Mom's plate...
122bmomsplate2.jpg

Wow, very blurry. Sorry! Anyway... meat, potatoes with affritude, peanut rice, some more humus, and a "life's too short, eat dessert first" zebra dome.

She liked the new meat better than the prime rib, too. She's not a big prime rib fan anyway, and she thought this meat was more flavorful. The peanut rice is one of her favorites, so all I kept hearing was, "Mmm, I love this peanut rice!" The zebra dome was delicious, of course.

Now, dessert! My plate...
122bmydessert.jpg

I stuck to basics. A spice cake pyramid, some banana bread pudding w/ vanilla sauce, and zebra domes.

I love this bread pudding. It's chock full o' bananas, but no raisins or other dried bits that I hate in my bread pudding. It's not too sweet, and it's nice and cinnamony. It's surpassed zebra domes as my favorite dessert at Boma. :faint:

I still love zebra domes, though. :goodvibes Small, creamy bites of chocolatey goodness *sigh* Yum!!!

Mom's dessert...
122bmomsdessert.jpg

Apple cobbler, spice cake pyramid, chocolate mousse, brownie, and zebra domes.

She really liked the cobbler. She put some of the vanilla sauce on it. She said the apples were nice and mushy; she doesn't like crispy apples in her cobbler. :) She always puts the mousse on the brownie and eats it that way, and again it was a hit.

Overall, Boma was wonderful as always. It's become one of our favorite restaurants, and we always really look forward to it. There's great variety, flavor, and quality here. Definitely a winner!!

Great reviews! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

The overheard conversations are hilarious! I think you should write a book!!!

I read this "conversation" to my husband and he just rolled his eyes. The poor man has been gray since he was 35 years old (he's 56 now). Thank God we didn't have girls...or he'd have no hair. :rotfl2:

I'm really enjoying your reviews. I love spoodles and the pumpkin ravioli looks really good. Looking forward to the next update.

Great reviews. I can't wait to read more! We're dong Boma for the first time on our upcoming trip and I am soooo excited! I think all I really need are the soups and zebra domes! Oh, and maybe a little bread pudding too!
