To decorate for Christmas or not.

I usually decorate the inside of my house every Christmas season. I pretty much do all the rooms (except the bedrooms) and it looks so pretty and festive. We are putting the house back on the market this coming week and I'm hoping it will go quickly since we are dropping the price quite a bit.

I just don't know if I should decorate it or not. I think it would look really pretty but of course potential buyers may not think so and I don't want to offend anyone who may not share my love for Christmas.
But....if the house doesn't sell and I am here for Christmas than I would love to have my stuff out.

So, what would you do?

I'm really dreading Christmas this year but I think having the house done up might make me feel a little more in the spirit.

What does your realtor say?

Unless the market is insanely hot in your area (and I hope it is for your sake!) the chances of your house selling and closing in a month are pretty slim I would think.

I would go ahead and decorate - maybe with "less is more" in mind.. Just enough so it looks festive (and lifts your holiday spirits), but not so much that it looks "cluttered"..

Good luck with selling! :goodvibes

I'll ask him on Monday. It doesn't have to do with putting it up and then closing. I'm more concerned with it being up while showing.

I've had a home for sale during the holidays. I was told no outside lights or decorations, just a simple wreath on the door. Also we put up one tree against my realtor's wishes. She said decorations make the home look too personal (like photos). People are less likely to think of your home as "their" new home.

Be strong in your rules on showings. We had people wanting to come on Christmas eve! There were many showings during the holidays that were not serious buyers but relatives just looking at what they could buy if they decided to move to the area.

We spent our New Years Eve waiting in our car during two showings. Everything was closed, so we had to wait in our car. Not a fun way to spend the holidays.

If we ever had a home to sell in the fall/winter we would pull our listing between Thanksgiving and Christmas. There just isn't enough serious buyers then to make it worth the stress.
