To DDP or not to DDP?

I'm a WDW newbie, and am torn on whether to do the DDP or not, and would appreciate any input offered!

There will be 4 adults and 3 kids (5, 6, 2), and we are going for 7 days, 6 nights.

2 of the adults are my parents, and they don't really eat much. Usually, they split a meal. The kids are also very light eaters.

1st Question: Would DDP be worth it?

We will have 2 separate rooms, so the option to purchase the DDP for just one room (2 adults, 1 child) is also available.

2nd Question: How would that work when it comes time to pay for the check?

Do we just tell the server this person is on the DDP, this person is paying OOP? Seems like it could get very confusing, esp. at non-buffet places...

Worth it becomes very subjective, but with two kids in the mix, if you plan on doing several buffets, you'll probably come out ahead.

As to your second question, yes, you simply tell the server who is on the plan and who is paying OOP and they will take care of it for you.

For adults, there isn't tremendous value to the ddp. For kids, at character meals and buffets (including Ohana, etc), the ddp is a nice savings.

Splitting the 2 rooms is actually a good idea. Your parents could then still share at ala carte places, which is MUCH cheaper than using the plan. Plus, you can all share the desserts and snacks from the half of the group on the plan. Technically, people on the plan can't share with people off the plan, but I don't see Disney dining police swooping in for giving away a few bites of your dessert.

And it's really not hard for servers to split the check. We did it with a group of 10, 7 people on a plan, 3 off.
