From POP I was just going to basically take FL-528 E right into Cocoa Beach.

any better routes or anywhere specific to go in Cocoa Beach? Just want the kids to be able to experience/see the ocean and a beach

thanks

I4 to 528 will take you all the way with tolls.

417 to 528 probably be your best bet from POP. Toll roads as well, I think it cost us about $6 each way in April this year. Usually takes about 75-85 minutes depending on traffic at the toll booths. If you have a Sunpass transponder you can do this in about 70 minutes

Without toll roads, its a whole lot trickier if you are new to the area:
Out through Kissimmee on 192 (Irlo Bronson), then east on 532 for 26 miles, then turn right, east again on 520 into Cocoa and continue on to Cocoa Beach. This one takes about 90 minutes but its a pretty peaceful ride once your through Kissimmee

do the 528 route - I prefer 417 to 528 ...

when 528 ends you are on A1A at Port Canaveral - Jetty Park is right there and is an excellent beach with rentals available, chairs umbrellas etc and a concession area and showers. A per car fee to get in.

or continue just a few miles south on A1a to the Cocoa Pier - you'll also find rentals, concessions in addition to the pier stuff - more food and drink available here - there is usually a fee for parking

and don't forget to visit RonJon for the mandatory t-shirt purchase.

Agree with every single thing here! Especially not forgetting a stop at Ron Jons!

Agree with previous posters about getting to Cocoa Beach. However, if you want a little quieter beach experience, go a few blocks further south, actually passing a "Welcome to Downtown Cocoa Beach" sign on a median in the middle of A1A, and get to the numbered streets with "south" in their names, like 4th Street South, etc. Very nice stretch of beach here, and all you need to do is put money in a parking meter in small lots next to the beach. The only drawback (IMO) is that it's pretty far from dining, etc. here unless you get back in your car.

quieter beaches info is spot on

BUT be advised that the quiet beaches don't have lifeguards .... Jetty Park and 'the Pier' do. This is not just an idle warning ... this area has too many drownings because of too few lifeguards. Rip currents are not unusual . . . if not an experienced ocean swimmer, stay near the guards and heed their warnings.

appreciate all the information. I have 4 daughters who are more princesses than anything. So when I say we want to go to the "ocean" its to put their feet maybe up to their knees in the water and look around for shells and play in the sand

thanks again for the info
