There have been some reports in the media lately, stating that the Atkins diet has changed their position on eating meat/fats. This is simply not true. To read the recent answer from Atkins, and clear up any confusion you might have, go here:
Atkins article

Atkins has not changed.

The basic tenets of the Atkins Nutritional Approach™ (ANA), consistent since 1972, are to control the intake of carbohydrates, avoid refined carbs (like sugar and white flour), eat a balance of fats (including saturated fat but not trans fats) and consume a variety of protein sources, such as red meat, fish, poultry and tofu. Saturated fat remains a valuable part of the ANA. There is absolutely no scientific research to support any claims that eating red meat and saturated fat as part of your Atkins program is anything other then beneficial. These protocols have been consistently reinforced as safe, effective and beneficial and have been further supported by 17 studies released over the last three years.

I'm glad to hear this. Thanks for the link, Rhonda. Interesting reading :)

Thanks for the link, Rhonda...That was an interesting article to read! I have it bookmarked now in case I have to refer to it again when a friend tells me how "unhealthy" Atkins is!

Hello friends. I just wanted to thank Rhonda for posting the link to this article. I am sitting right here watching ABC's Good Morning America & they are talking about all the Atkins friendly menu additions at well known restaurants & she keeps stressing the high calories for those who are not on Atkins. One minute it sounds like she is ripping into the Atkins diet but then she ends it by saying that it's not just the calories that are important to count.

It left me wishy washy. I couldn't really tell whether she just added that line at the end just to cover her butt or not.

Anyhoo! I know it's been awhile since I have been here but I am still doing Atkins. The holidays were a little bumpy but I'm back in business with no harm done. :yo-yo: :wave2:

Rhonda, THANK YOU!

I was about to turn off the TV before the evening news and BAM, the promo announces the big CHANGE in the Atkins diet as a part of the news report.

OF COURSE, I stay up for the entire show and NOTHING came up!

The next morning I watched the morning show which usually repeats the evening before topics and STILL no Atkins report. I think they retracted it.

There is no doubt that they know the popularity of this program and just the mention of the word will cause people to tune in. GMA is also aware of it and the disclaimer at the end is a scripted legal measure, sort of like the little white writing during a financial TV commercial...

I doubt that the report from the site will get much attention.
