That is the question?
I have a 3 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. And we are considering going to ariels cove for a character meal? Is this really worth the money? We have done everything as cheap as possible and this would be my one splurge. But I am wondering if I would rather save my splurge for the cheese cake factory in San Diego?
any ideas?

My DD is a teen and thought she was to old for anything like this ahead of time. We were walking by Goofy's Kitchen and she saw many characters and wished we had done something like that. It looks like so much fun. Do your girls scare easily, because when my DD was your DD's ages she would have freaked out seeing some of the characters so close. Just a thought. I don't know anything about the Cheesecake FActory but I say if you can do the meal at Disney, then do it. I bet your girls would be talking about it for a long time.

We have a 2 and 5-year old and went to Ariel's for dinner, and both Goofy's and Storyteller's for breakfast. There were a lot of characters at Ariel's, and we got photos with all of them. They dance around and shake instruments and it was really fun. We didn't get a chance to eat much of our expensive food though, since we were busy taking photos and following the kids around. We didn't order food for our 2-year old. Both kids loved the music and characters.

Storyteller's was fun for the follow the leader dance, but hardly any characters. Nice atmosphere. Goofy's had characters but they wouldn't let us walk around much so it wasn't as much fun for the kids. The buffet was good though.

I'm glad we visited them all!

The food there is awsome . You won't have room for dessert but buy some and take it with you it is so worth it. We have eaten at the one in columbas and in florida and will eat there while we are in California.

The charachter meals are great for the kids and do give you the time with charachters without having to just stand in a line and wait.

Enjoy what ever you decide but my votes the Cheesecake Factory. My favorite flavor is the carrot cake cheesecake.

Have fun

Hi Jenn-

I took my 3 year old son to a character breakfast at Paradise Pier earlier this year. We also went to dinner at Ariel's Grotto. I felt that the breakfast was a much better value- you didn't have to get the buffet and could just order side items. I ordered too many, of course, and spent about $30 for the two of us with tip. My husband was still sleeping in the room, lol.

We all went to dinner at Ariel's Grotto. We all had meals, and I think it was over $60. The quality of the food was not good. I had the French Onion Soup and the Chicken Pot Pie. Both were much too salty. The Chicken Pot Pie basically had a huge biscuit plopped over some gravy and small chicken and vegetable chunks. My husband had the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. They served it with some sort of tomato sauce ALL over the plate, including on the potatoes.

I think your kids would really like a character meal. My son would never go up to a character, but he really liked them coming by the table and hugging him.

December last year we went to Storytellers for Breakfast. Although the food was good, the characters hung out in the entrance way, and only came around for the dance that they do. For us, this was a good thing, since our 1 year old DD was in love with Chip and Dale and did not want to eat. Chip and Dale loved her right back even more so in the end, the character interaction for her was great. BTW, you do not have to order the buffet there, you can order off of the menu. It's not that it is really cheap, but it is a way to save some money.

We were at Ariel's last weekend for lunch and really enjoyed it. We were there with a lot of family, 8 adults and 7 kids with ages from 2 to 13. We opted for lunch to save a few dollars. I believe the adult meal was $14.99 and the kids was $10.99 (adult drinks are not included and dessert is extra as well). It is not buffet or all you can eat, but you choose a soup or salad and an entre. The kids mostly had Mac and Cheese which had a neat cut up hot dog that looked like an octopus. The kids also received a pale and shovel (plastic one for play in the sand). There were a lot of characters and they all came to our table and we got lots of pictures, and Ariel greeted you as you were seated. Most of the adults had the Burger (really big) or the Chicken Salad which also looked good. The Chicken noodle soup did not have much chicken in it though. The waitress overheard my cousin mention the lack of chicken and quickly offered to bring her another bowl. All in all, I paid for 3 adult meals and 2 kids meals, and the out the door price was $77 (including tax and tip). Everyone really liked it, and it was great to escape into the cool sit down restaurant on a very hot day (was in the mid 90's that day, easy). Good luck with your decision and keep us informed.

I forgot to mention the cotton candy in the pail! I think I loved that more than my son!:Pinkbounc

Ah Yes - The Cotton Candy!!! Image if you will my 2 year old DD, with a pail full of pink sugary fluff...now imagine a half box of wipes to get her clean!!!!!

Ha! I can totally imagine that. My husband and I wondered why they made the cotton candy pink, it would have looked like seafoam if it was blue. ;)
