I am in desperate need to help! I am ready to commit to buying OK since the CND dollar is so high....BUT, are there any down sides to DVC?? I need honest answers please.

After doing a huge, 50 year spreadsheet analysis (hubbies suggestion) we realized we vacation every year (cottage or other) and spend approx $3-4K/yr for a fam of 4. I loved DVC OK site but what about the other US locations (Vermont, Maine, Az?) are they all worth it?

I can only see the positives, I need to know the negitives before I hand over all our money....

Please help!!

After some searches under "DVC Regrets" I think I found my answers. Thanks to "those who have gone before me" in this thought.:coffee:

Now, how do I convince my hubbie to buy into DVC!??!:confused3

For me, I was sold years ago, but for DH, he needed to see the accommodations and talk face to face with our guide.

i don't understand this. are you intending to trade out of the DVC resorts (at wdw, HHI, VB, CA or HI) in order to stay at other timeshares on a regular basis? if so, you can find cheaper timeshares to use for this purpose.

DVC is generally understood to be a good value if used at DVC resorts. if you intend to trade out for disney cruises or other locations, be aware that point requirements can change and you definitely lose some financial value in the process. (but the added flexibility may make up for this for some individuals in some cases.)

I was just wondering about, as a DVC owner, has anyone visited any other locations offered in the US as an alternative as a every other or every three year as a change?

Don't get me wrong - I love Disney and would go every year (or more if I could) but I was considering doing: OK in 2008, Maine trip 2009 , OK in 2010, etc. Just so the kids can see a bit of the US.

Are the other '500 world-wide' offered vacation spots worth a visit to?

I don't think there is anywhere in OK that you can trade into. I don't think there is anywhere in OK the caliber DVC would require for a trade. But if you have your heart set on it, I'll have a couple of spare rooms I can let you have if you want to give me the points:lmao:

If you only plan on using your points at DVC every other year I would only buy enough points to go every other year. If you buy now and get 2007 points you could bank them and combine with 2008 points for your 2008 vacation. Then in 2009 bank your points and combine with 2010 for your 2010 vacation. There are cheaper ways to visit the other 500 resorts than buying DVC.

Since we are so far away our only "negative" was the cost of flights. It is approx 2 grand on a seat sale for the five of us to fly to Orlando. It is about 1600 to LAX. We decided we would spend that anyways even if we did not own DVC. As we were gathering info and making a decision GCV and Hawaii was announced which is a plus to those living out west. We are heading to DL next month and will be buying there. We are however travelling to Orlando in April for 5 days to have an onsite lookyloo and a little Mom and Dad time:love: We took months gathering information before we decided. I know we will not have any regrets because we are making an informed decision. Good luck with your decision. :thumbsup2
