My DD is on the fence about believing in Santa Clause. She's leaning more towards him being made up than him being real. If she decides that she doen't believe, I'm not going to keep pounding in her head that he is real. She doesn't get the logistics of him getting in and out of chimneys, traveling all over the world in one night, flying reindeer, etc.

But she totally still believes in the Tooth Fairy.

Masked characters at WDW are fake, but the face characters are real.

I have an odd child. :D

What age did your kid(s) figure out that Santa wasn't real?

WVJules,
I believe our girls are about the same age and they seem to have similar views. DD wanted to know why "if Santa and the elves make all the toys through the year, why do some of the boxes say made in China?"

I think she doesn't believe but wants to believe and maybe even thinks there'd be no presents if she said it out loud. I won't be pounding her in the head either. I don't go for that...

My oldest is almost 19 and he says if he stops believing then there will be nothing under the tree!! :teeth:

I'm getting the exhaustive questions now from them - they're 9 & 10. Every time I give in and say "You know what - you're right - there is no Santa, so don't look for presents from him!" they look appropriately shocked and do some serious backpedaling. ;)

I think I told dd when she was 10. She had had suspicions but still cried when I told her. But she made me promise that there would still be gifts under the tree from Santa because it's when you stop believing that makes you grown up!

My DD is eleven and she told me a few weeks ago she has known for a couple of years. She said she only went along with it to make me happy. But of course she said that doesn't mean she wants less presents underneath the tree.

my parents never lied to me. i asked them when i was about 5 if santa was real, and my mom said: "do you really want to know?" i said yes, and she told me he wasn't real.

but i do believe in the spirit of santa. :)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
The title of your post like Hamlet!!!!!
I have been studing Hamlet in school since Sept. 6..I finished my final Hamlet theory at 2:30 this morning and I need to memorize to be or not to be by Thurs....

Yeah that's all i can think about right now..my brain is fried

DSD, 11 and DSS 9 (almost 10), no longer believe. They were really on the fence about it last year so their mom decided to tell them after last Christmas. I was afraid something would be missing this year, but you know what we are having even MORE fun talking about and guessing what will be under the tree this year. I also think they will appreciate the presents more knowing they are coming from us (okay so I am hoping that ;) )

DS, age 7, has his doubts, but gets the same line as Cookie gives her kids. I told him he'd better act like he believes or he might be mighty disappointed come Christmas time. :teeth:

The little one, who will be 4 at the end of this month, is at the height of Santa mania. He believes, he believes! :) Its so sweet when they are little like that and totally trust and believe in the magic of Santa Claus. :sunny: I know it won't last forever, so I am cherishing every minute of it.
