To be a Disneyland apostate...

My last trip to Disneyland was in 2004. It was also my first time dining at Blue Bayou and while I loved the Monte Cristo going down, let's just say I couldn't keep it down. I was never so sick in my life. I remember calling the front desk (we were staying at the DH) to warn them to notify the Blue Bayou.
I'm wondering what would have caused it? The monte cristo doesn't have any raw foods as far as I know, but maybe some of the cold meats had spoiled. It would be hard to tell under all that fried oil while eating it. But it could also have been something else you ate earlier and did not suspect. Some food poisoning can take a while to show up and a big meal like that could start the purge...

The vast majority of the treats. I used to have some favorites in the candy shops but they're almost all gone, replaced with Rice Krapsie treats and other such ickiness.
I agree regarding the candy treats. Most of that pre-packaged goofy candy factory and minnie bake shop stuff is either garbage or just not unique enough to warrant the price. And often not fresh. I still do like tigger tails and its variants and the handmade fudge behind the glass is good and not a bad deal when you buy 6 (33% off). They got rid of some of the other unique chocolate treats like peanut butter sandwich. The mickey gingerbread cookie was one of the worst I ever had. The other large cookies were dry and lacked flavor and sweetness. A mickey pretzel was really stale, but I enjoyed the hot dogs, churros, and other food cart items I have tried. Matterhorn Macaroon is very good though!

Re: the Monte Cristo... back when I first got on the DISboards in 08, it was generally referred to as the "Monte Crisco."

That said, I ordered it to share with my DD at Cafe Orleans, and it was very good. But then it was very hot and fresh. After it cooled down it sort of congealed and got not-so-good.
Also we couldn't finish it between the two of us. One quarter of it, and a bite or two more was plenty!

I enjoyed the Monte Cristo the first time I had it (last September), but I also remember that my favorite part was the berry compote that came with it. The sweetness cut the greasy-friedness of the sandwich.

Someone said they don't have the peanut butter sandwiches anymore. I didn't get one while I was there in June, but the chocolate covered peanut butter graham cracker sandwich was my favorite snack, and I would get it at Pooh Corner.

Toontown and the Roger Rabbit ride. Toontown because I don't think it's that interesting (and I have two young boys.) Make it more of a running around playground, like the Redwood Challenge Trail. Or with a water feature like Bug's Land. The only thing that's good there is Gadget's Go Coaster, because it's such a good first roller coaster to introduce your kids to.

Roger Rabbit's ride because... it's weird. I don't mind it, but it's in the middle of Toon Town and it's actually kind of dark. I know, Toon Town is from the Roger Rabbit movie, so I get the theming there. The mood of the ride really contrasts that of the land, so when I took my kids on it, they were scared. It's just a strange theme of a ride to put in the middle of a land which is set up for young children.

The frozen treats at the carts (Mickey Ice Cream, etc.) It's just poor quality ice cream. The Mint Juleps were really disappointing.

You people who dislike the corn dogs and Dole whip are lunatics.

A lot of people feel this way about RR. My DH and kids don't like it because it "smells weird"-- must be the Dip! It's ok as far as I'm concerned, but I don't like the taxis you ride in, because you have to try to steer so you're kind of pointed toward things to look at-- and they're very stiff and hard to steer. You end up careening around a lot.

Mint juleps are terrible! :scared: I also find most of the park pastries to be dry. The Matterhorn Macaroon is a fabulous exception. The turkey legs are pretty gross too; greasy.

But the list of what I love waaaaaayyyyy outweighs what I don't. :cloud9:

The key is to start spinning and then the wheel gets some momentum and easier to just keep spinning, so by the end of the ride you are so dizzy you will get sick or fall over. However, most people I ride with don't care for my guidance on that ride for some reason...:confused3

But it is a really unique and odd ride... kind of a slightly more mature version of mr toad with some cool animatronics and effects. Not a huge fan of the movie, but like the ride.

I've had my share of kind of "let downs" because of all the hype but not really disliked them.

I only dislike high prices but not even that keep me from goin ! :drive::rolleyes1

I really can't see us doing IASW again unless it's a multi-day trip and the line is not very long. The ride takes too long and it loads too slow. Not enough payoff, imo.

IASW... it was down for refurb the first two times we went. I finally went last year, that was enough. Not that I hated it, just... enough with the dolls and the tune, already. But DH has never been, so I guess I'll power through the song once more, for his sake. :D

Going late at night right after the parade or sometimes during it there is sometimes no line and we've gotten entire boats to ourselves with no one else in the boats in front or behind us. To me, IASW is as disney as the castle is. There's always some little detail or doll I didn't notice before, since there are so many. Nice on a hot day when you want to relax for a while and just appreciate all the little details that went into it, when the line is not bad because that line in the sun can be a killer.

I've had no wait the last couple of times I've been, in the morning and on weekdays.

I'll typically do it if I'm waiting to burn a FP for Hyperspace Mountain or Star Tours.

I really hated Matterhorn. For all the hype I thought it was painful and dull. I don't understand with all the money they have why they haven't fixed that thing and made it smoother. For me it was a once in a lifetime and try to block the memory of it ride.

The turkey leg was gross, my husband is an eat anything you put in front of him kind of guy and he couldn't get down more than half of it. He found it dry and flavorless. I can't get over the price of Churros or why people buy them at DL, in NYC you can get a fresh one for better quality for $1-2 on a subway platform.

I do love me a Mickey Bar and Dole Whip though. I am 100% honest with myself though. I pay more for Mickey Bars and breakfast with Mickey waffles just to have things in the shape of his head, not because any of them taste better.:mickeybar

Fireworks and character meets are out for us.

I thought this was funny. You don't like character meets, but your avatar is you, your son, and Mickey and a character breakfast. HA!!!

Anyway, for me, it's Toy Story Mania. There's constantly a 45 minute line for this attraction, but I don't understand why. I always take my kids on it, but they'd let me, I'd skip that line and do something else. Buzz always has a shorter line with the same experience - why the hype?

And someone else post about the Matterhorn. I agree. I keep doing once each year, and then limp away saying "what's the big deal about this?".

TSMM is really fun, imo, and I'm 33, lol.

Buzz is just lame compared to TSMM. I love the 3D and the different scenes in the game and, though my husband usually beats the crud out of me points-wise, I am getting better each time!

Yeah, I don't understand TSMM. AT ALL. I finally went on it for the first time this last trip and it was just, so...meh. How is there a lineup for this?

IASW is fine. I like that it's cool and shady if it's a hot day, and the kids love the boat rides, so it's a nice bit of downtime for them where I get to sit down for a good 15 minutes and they're totally occupied.

I like TSMM, but usually don't ride it more than two times a visit.

But the queue is a great place to check out other folk's pins, and do a little pin trading.

Ditto to the Matterhorn! I'm glad I'm not the only one. It just hurt. I couldn't understand the long lines. I didn't even notice the yeti or whatever it is, I was too busy trying to survive with minimal broken bones.

I read a post on Facebook some months ago that they were installing cushions, or better cushions, on the seats. Anyone know if they did?
