To be a Disneyland apostate...

There are some things at Disneyland and DCA that are generally considered "great" and that DL and DCA in general would suffer from their loss. They are part of what make both parks great.

Let's refer to these things as the CW or "conventional wisdom."

But I'm sure not everyone has "drank the Kool-aid" and accepted all things about DL and DCA as great.

Two for me: the chicken dinner at Plaza Inn, and mint juleps in New Orleans Square. Not a fan of either.

What things that most Disney fans accept as great do you avoid, dislike or disagree with the CW?

Dole whip. I never really liked it. And then a few years ago I had an allergic reaction to pineapple juice. Go figure.

I agree with you on the mint julep. I'd rather have a real alcoholic one than the stuff that resembles mouthwash in NOS. I don't think it's even really a substitute for the real thing, and don't understand the appeal.

Also, the pretzels and churros. I regularly have better at stadiums and a few local restaurants. Maybe if I never had them anywhere else, but maybe not.

As far as rides, nothing bothers me all that much. There are things I'd prefer not to ride, but I don't care if Disney keeps them in lieu of something I personally might like more. There are things that I wouldn't wait too long for. For example, I'd wait 60 minutes for Peter Pan before I'd wait 40 for Dumbo, just because I like it more.

Mickey's Fun Wheel.

Wait, are you suggesting there is anyone out there that likes the Fun Wheel. I find that hard to believe.

Mine is all Fantasyland dark rides... shoot, all dark rides. My day is made no better or worse by riding these attractions. All things being equal, I would rather sit and listen to a band outside or people watch. Sure, I will sing praises about the Alice revamp, but only because the rides are so dated and boring that they need extra attention.

World of Color. Seriously. Even the original show. I don't see what makes it so magical.

Mickey pretzels. There's nothing special about them. We had better ones at an amusement park with half the budget.

I agree on the mint julep, too. If I happen to be in the area I might get one, but it's not anything remarkable.

The corn dogs. I took two bites and tossed it in the garbage. Way too much grease and tasteless on top of that.
Amazingly, I mentioned this to a buddy who generally likes fatty, greasy food and he echoed my thoughts.

The pumpkin beignets...meh! We just didnt get all the hype. We ended up throwing th away.

Turkey legs

I agree with the plaza chicken, we did not understand they hype, my local grocery store makes it way better.

I'm with you all on the Monte Cristo. It's state fair food and I'm not paying $19 for a greasy, deep-fried hamstrosity. Maybe $6. :p

No to Dole Whip and the Mint Julep is wretched.

Peter Pan is nice but it's not the end-all/be-all ride deserving of the 40+ minute wait times. Kid, we're gonna ride something else! lol

Haha, I agree with Peter Pan!

Mine is the popcorn. I expected it to be The Best Popcorn Ever, but mine was stale and tasted worse than fresh microwave popcorn.

I don't care for the churros. The one time we tried a turkey leg, we tossed most of it... it was awful. We rarely watch parades, fireworks, or other shows. The exception was Aladdin, but otherwise, we almost never make a point of watching them.

World of Color and Fantasmic. Did each once and that was enough.
It's a Small World. The same music over and over and the same figures just dressed differently. Drives me nuts.

...the constant tinkle-y music. It's not ALL bad, but I get pretty sick of "Surrey With The Fringe On Top" after the eleventy-fifteenth time. Makes me want to go listen to AC/DC. Sacrilege, I know.

Stop it! Stop it! You are all debbie downers stomping on walt's grave and tearing his castle down brick by brick!!! :dancer::earseek::earseek:

Just kidding... it is kind of interesting and odd hearing what people don't like about disneyland that others do, but this is kind of a downer, weird thread to read in an otherwise positive, cheery forum.

Bengal BBQ is just gross to us-but we bbq a lot at home. We have not eaten at Plaza Inn in a decade-never was special for us.

Would be ok if Autopia went away, needs a serious update or rethink to newer tech. Golden Zephyr-meh.
