OK, Here's the deal. We bought 250pts at BLT in October 2009
Our use year is February
We are planning our first big DVC trip (with another family) for January 2011.
We will need a BLT Grand Villa so I will need 2 years worth of points.

Do I bank my 2009 points and use in January 2011?

My biggest fear is that if I bank my 2009 pts. due to the 11 month window I won't find out until February 2010 about availability and the date we want is sooo close to the end of our use year.

Yes, for a reservation in January, 2011 you would need to bank your February, 2009 points to use them thru January 31, 2011. You can also borrow points from your February, 2011 Use Year for that same trip.

As you are aware, one danger with a trip just before your Use Year is that a late cancellation might make the re-use of those points difficult. This can be especially true when planning large family trips. If you needed to cancel that reservation the points would still need to be used by January 31, 2011. The borrowed points could not be returned to their original Use Year and even the "current" points could not be banked unless the reservation was cancelled by September 30, 2010.
