To AP or not?

DH, DS and I are going to DL for three days in August. Then we are going again for three days in December with my Mom and sister.

The question is should we buy APs? A deluxe AP would definately be less expensive than two sets of 3 day PH but I am afraid of the blackout dates. I get a lot of discounts already with my DVC and Chase Disney card. And I get free valet parking with DVC.

It is very doubtful that I will be going to DL again in 2009 as I have a big WDW trip planned for 2010 and need to save my points. The only way I would go to DL again in 2009 was if GC villas finally went on sale and we had points that we had to use.

Any suggestions? Should I really be afraid of blackout dates since I try to stay away from DL on Saturdays? Will I lose my MM privileges with an AP?

Well, financially it makes sense to do an AP. If you have looked at the black out calendar and can live with the days that you can't go, then I would go for it.

Right now, if you stay onsite, then you do get to utilize all of the morning magic days with your AP. If you stay off site, then you do not have MM.

However, if for your first trip you bought 3 day hoppers, and then on your 3rd day (or after you have used your MM) upgraded to the AP's you would have MM on that trip.

Hope that helps.

If you go to the disneyland.com website it will let you see the blocked days. If you can make the trip early in December (before the 19th) you should only have Saturdays blocked.
