To anyone going between 8/8 and 8/23

My wife, two kids (ages 7 and 9) will be heading to Disney on August 8. We'll be there for just about 2 weeks. I was tinkering with the idea of renting a pontoon boat for Illuminations. According to the web site I just saw, it can handle 12 people, which would be our family + 8 more. If anyone is interested in splitting the cost and enjoying Illuminations with another DVC member family, drop me a message.

Thanks spiceycat. We'd probably prefer to go with some DVC folks, but I left a message there, too. This will be our first trip as DVC members, so we really want to make the most of it.

Pennykay.....As it turns out, our last night in Disney before moving to Universal is the 20th, so if it turns out that you are interested, that would have to be the night. I don't know much about it, aside from what I read online. Some information can be found here. As you can see from that link, it is a bit pricey, but more doable if you team up with another family. I read on another site that it is very difficult to book so you usually have to be flexible with days, which might not work for us since our last day is your first. But we can definitely talk if you are interested.

You need to start attempting to make a reservation at 90 days out. These used to be very popular when they were less expensive (only $175 per trip). Now, not so sure. But, they have also reduced the number of boats available, so it may be harder to get. There used to be six boats if I remember correctly. Now maybe only three or four.

You can't just rent a pontoon or other boat for Illuminations. The marina shuts down about 5PM. You have to reserve an Illuminations Cruise through WDW-PLAY for this.

The Date really doesn't make a difference to me- maybe we should both start calling at 90 days and see what date one of us can get!! It is $319.50 I think with the tax included, and up to 10 can go on the pontoon boat, so we can see if maybe 4 more people can join?

Do you have a preferred date? Park hours aren't out yet, so we could just plan around this. Do you want to all try to call at 90 days and see what happens? Let meknow, anyday between those days is fine with me!

Sounds good. We can both call and then PM (this site's email system) each other if/when one of us gets it. With my four and your 2, we should definitely keep this thread alive to hopefully find a few more.

They are very strict on the number of people on the boat. You can't exceed the number they allow.

We will be there 11-16, there are 6 of us. Our kids are 7, 7, 10, 12. We would be interested.

eeyoresbestfriend.......I'd like to fill the boat so our cost per person is the lowest. From what I understand, the smallest boat is 8 people, so we'd need two more.

dairyqueenmom....If eeyoresbestfriend and I can't find those two more people, perhaps it would be best if both eeyoresbestfriend's family and my family split up to try to find different groupings. In that case, my family could join your family and get the 10 person boat. Bookmark this thread to see how it develops.

Anyone else interested? Maybe this thread will result in a few boat groupings forming!

well, there seems to be a few people interested so far- maybe Rutgers, you should team up with the party of 6 and that would fill your boat, the other 2 people that posted here, along with my goup, can find another group to add to ours, and we would have a full boat then too.

Debi, is there just you in your group? So that would be my party-2, there was another poster who said her and her son (Sorry don't have the name in front of me) 2 and Debi 1 we could have another group of 5 to fill the pontoon boat.

Do you guys want to plan through here or email? What do you think Rutgers? Will that work? Just let me konw, I am easy!!

eeyore....All that i care about is that everyone who wants to go finds a boat. The good thing is that we have time until we can call. I think the window opens on May 10 for an August 8th boat, and we can call every day after until the last day that everyone is there. I'm just going to bump this thread up from time to time until we hit that magic number of people.
