............they're back:eek: This weekend was the end of empty parking spaces, no lines in the grocery stores and banks, ability to get atable at any of the local restaraunts or getting a seat in the movie theatre:rolleyes:

Yes they are. One drive around the colleges in this area and there's no doubt about it.:D

OSU doesn't start until Sept 22nd. We still have time to get
our shopping done!

Isn't it DREADFUL????? And my two are part of the crowd... :p

I have to drive by the Stadium where 10,000 of them park to catch the campus bus twice during the morning-while helping my Mom-the traffic is HORRIBLE!!

I hope this thread is a joke...

God forbid people actually try to better themselves through education at the expense of a parking spot or theater seat in a town.:teeth:

My hometown is doing everything it can to push away college students. Passing new laws against businesses liquor vs. food sold percentages so that restaurants don't get "bar crowds", new noise ordinances to keep nightclubs closed, and then they whine that we all graduate and leave town and take our "grown up" money elsewhere to live.

I made a similar comment last May when college let out...and my two kids attend the college. If you live in a College "Town", the difference in traffic and crowding is noticable...that's all.:D

Ours have been here most of the summer lots of them never go home so it is normal here.

I work in a grocery store very close to a S.U.N.Y campus....let me just say this, we were VERY busy the last 2 days! We can defiantely tell my the increase in business that they are back! But we love them here.

ITA Nancy. They do keep the economy hopping.::yes::

There are 5 large colleges in my area- UMASS, Amherst College, Hampshire, Smith, and Mount Holyoke, so when the colleges are in session, things get pretty crowded around here:eek:

When I went to college, I lived in town year round, and man was there ever a difference! Very crowded in the fall. It was funny because in the summer I was talked to by the "Townies" and they were friendly everywhere. The minute I put on a backpack I was sub human!! I wanted to scream, "I am a Townie!!!" I worked full time through college, so I paid taxes there and everything!! I understood the distain, though! My car insurance bill was higher because of the number of young people there. They also trashed the entire town. It was Lawrence Kansas, the town could not have gotten along without the university.

Oops..I AM a college student... :o

However I cannot claim fault for any of those crowded-town problems, because I don't have a car, and pretty much stick around campus...the only place I really affect is Walgreens. :)

And why leave campus? In my first week I've gotten to ride a mechanical bull, watch a hypnotist go to work on my peers, and go to a luau dance! Hmm..if only this would last all year. ;)

As someone who works the Walmart in a 2 college town oh yeah can I tell the college kids are back there are NO hangers, NO Ramen, NO 10 cent notebooks, NO about everything else left after tonight

and once again "I" become the cheapest date in town the Walmart toy dept... Sad but true...

I forgot about Walmart getting emptied out! I'm working today at JC Penney, and we will be mobbed. It never fails, though, there are always parents dropping their kids off at school who yell at the sales associates because we don't have what they're looking for:rolleyes: Wish me luck today!

::yes::

Kinda off topic, but I remember how much Ramen we used to eat in college. It was awful. One guy in my dorm would eat it without cooking it...sounds awful, but actually, it tasted like unsalted saltines.

Then my DB at the time was nearly broke...his parents couldn't send money, and his financial aid hadn't come through yet...he had $10 to live on for two weeks, and no meal plan. He ate quite a lot of Ramen.

Okay, back to your original thread.

We always know when the freshmen arrive; the number of Porsches, Mercedes, and BMW's increase exponentially.:D

I share your pain! It took me 20+ mins to go about 4 miles today. Welcome back, Cavaliers!

I'm feeling your pain... I'm late for work every day now! However, I work at the university, so if it weren't for them, I wouldn't be here! :teeth:

My MIL is a manager at Bed Bath & Beyond. they just opened a new store in College Station Tx. Home of A&M. well this is thier first fall startup and she told us it was way hectic. We didn't talk to her for 2 weeks because she would wrk during the day, go home take a nap and then work till open the next morning cleaning the store and putting more stock out. they had 14 managers come in from other stores and the Sat. before last they did $67000 in one day. She loved it! Then again she's a worlaholic.
