I am considering a trip (me, 3 kids) to Provincetown to see some whales (hopefully!)... Can you recommend any activities/places to see that the kids would find fun? They are into beach/nature things more than children's museum type things. I was thinking of staying in Truro (if they have rooms) for a couple of nights.

I have looked into Ecotarium in Worcester for on the way home (it's right up our alley)...

Thanks in advance!

In P-town....you can either take dune tours OR walk The Dune.

A dune tour will take you by SUV out onto the large dunes of P-town. OR you can park at The Dune.....a HUGE HUGE HUGE dune on Rt 6.....and climb the dune & walk around. I think it's free. Tiring on the legs.

Also, the National Seashore has visitors centers in several locations where you could catch a history film or maybe a guided tour or self-guided tour. Worth it. Again... I think free.

In P-town, climb the Pilgrim's Monument for a spectaluar view. I used to try to count the stairs. LOL Admission required.

Or while driving to P-town.....you could exit off in Dennis (exit 9)....find Scargo Tower on Scargo Hill....and climb just a couple stairs...and get a GREAT view of the cape. (free - just a couple miles off Rt 6) Highest point on Cape Cod I believe. Say hi to my parents as you drive by their house. LOL

Not from Cape Cod (though I wouldn't mind), but I do love to visit there. You could always stop at the Wellfleet Drive In to catch a family friendly double feature.

Go on down to Race Point. It's incredibly beautiful and the surf is fun. Do a whale watch from MacMillan Wharf. In Truro, or is it Wellfleet, check out the lighthouse that was moved a few years ago. In Wellfleet check out the Audobon Society Nature Walk. We do it every year. Also, in Eastham, check out the Visitor's Center. It has good info and nice nature walks also. The Ecotarium in Worc. is nice but not very extensive. Food service isn't terrific. But my 9 y/o dd likes to do it once a year or so. Have fun. That's my favorite part of Cape Cod!!

Almost forgot. Another thing you could do on the way back, is Sturbridge Village. It's right off the Mass Pike in Sturbridge. Kind of expensive but very nice for a day trip. It depicts village life in mid-1800's.
