To all my gay/lesbian friends, a question...

Which Disney are you headed to? Florida or California? Since same gender marriage is more or less accepted in Calif I wouldn't see an issue for there - in Florida I personally would love it if someone did that for hunny and I. How are they as a couple? very out? publically comfortable? or are they more private and might be embarrassed by the sign?

edit: my bad - just re-read - no Coral Reef in Calif - so ignore that part!

A few things...

a) The coral reef suprise isn't garunteed, but they will do it if they have Divers that night.

b) Disney would be open to it for sure. I'm not sure if they are aware, but Disney started offering the Fairytale Weddings to same-sex partners recently.

c) Don't forget to get them the "happy anniversary" buttons from the front desk of the resort you stay at, and the Groom ears are always a fun option too! :thumbsup2

If my honey ate the kind of food that they serve at the Coral Reef, I would have no reservations at all about arranging for a Diver for our upcoming anniversary trip. If your friends have gone to all of the effort to get married, they most likely don't give a darn about public opinions.....I could be wrong of course.

Absolutely make it a very special evening for them! The diver would be great and ConcKahuna's ideas are wonderful too! The pins are free at Guest Relations so no problem there.

It's a very open and free place to be, WDW. It's a great place to celebrate an anniversary, or a union!

This August, my husband and I are heading to Disney with another couple. They are a gay couple who legally got married last August. Therefore, they will be celebrating their 1yr anniversary while in Disney with us.

We were wondering how appropriate it would be to plan for them the special Coral Reef anniversary surprise (where the diver holds up a sign wishing them happy anniversary and give them personalized menus with pics). Would Disney go for this? I just worry about other people in the restaurant who are not so comfortable with gay marriage. If you think we need to use discretion, is there another phrase we could use on the sign?

Any thoughts on this would be very much appreciated. These men mean the world to me and I want it to be a memorable experience (and nothing uncomfortable for them). Thanks so much!

That they went to the trouble of getting legally married suggests to me that these gentlemen are firmly "out" and not afraid of people knowing it.

I don't see any reason to care if other people are comfortable about it or not. It is a *sign*, not a make out session. (And nobody should be having those at the dinner table.) Nobody has any room to get offended.

I think that is a GREAT idea and how awesome of you as a good friend for planning something so romantic and sweet. Frankly, if someone were to do that for Joe and I on our own anniversary, I wouldn't care at all what any other guests thought. If there's a problem, it's their's, not mine. I'd be too busy being pretty swept up in the moment to notice anyone else in the dining room at that point anyway!

Disney is fantastic about their lgbt guests and provides the same opportunities for everyone.

I say go for it. :thumbsup2

plan it, do it, and flaunt it! There is NO BETTER place to do such a thing than Disney. My DBF and I wore anniversary buttons and Mickey Top hats all over the parks for 10 days and never once got a negative reaction from a CM. In fact, we were frequently wished a happy anniversary. One CM even asked us how many years over the entire loading dock at Splash Mountain!

Of course guests might or might not like it, but quite frankly, who cares?? The CMs and Disney as a company have your back and that is what truly matters.k

Just thinking back...it was so nice to not worry about holding hands in public. Such a little thing that so many take for granted. I have such high expectations for Disney given I'm a CM and hold such an emotional attachment to the company, yet they continue to exceed my expectations in every way.

Go for it, take pictures, and let us know how it goes!
