OMG!!! I cannot believe this show. I've seen it before, but watching tonight, let me just say, I'm an emotional eater (but I've been doing really well lately) and I've got my hand in the Doritos bag! Mrs. Sterling shows so much favoritism to her daughter BreeAna (sp?) over her twin sister Ashlyn, it is just painful to watch! Oops, she forgot to fix Ashlyn's dress, yes, Ashlyn did well, but "nothing exciting", "she's skinny and her nose is bigger" "I was shocked that she did well today"... :scared1: You can see it in this child's eyes that for life she will feel like she never measures up. This chick is just driving me nuts!

I've never seen this show before but stumbled on it tonight. DH and I were shocked and appalled by the mom you mentioned. Seriously...can you say, emotional abuse?

I can't believe a mom would make her 5 year old child feel so ugly and inferior. I can't remember a TV show ever making me this angry. I hope I can go to sleep, I have a 10 hour drive ahead of me in the morning.

What is wrong with people who put their children in pageants???????

I have not seen the show, but have seen the commercials. I have no desire to watch this show. :sad2: It just does not seem right? Know what I mean?

I have to admit, I haven't watched the show because of the previews, and now I'm really glad I missed it; it sounds awful! I just can't understand the whole make up, 2 hour hair, spray tan, fake teeth $2000 and up outfit, etc, etc, etc,... for a 2-8 year old. ( I know people who do pageants) They don't look like kids, they look like miniature adults; and even then, not the kind of adults I would want my baby to emulate, but that's just me

OP here - My beef isn't with pageants so much. If it's a family hobby, fine. If they want to spend tons of $, fine. As long as the kids are enjoying it, fine. The problem is how this lady was treating her children. What about when this child watches the show years down the road, how painful that will be. It is as if she's intentionally setting up one child to fail, so that the other child has less competition, and doesn't have to share the spotlight. Good for Ashlyn doing well, despite her mother's lack of encouragement. Mom needs to wake up!!!

The only reason I watch this show is because it gives a reminder that I'm a good mommy! Sometimes after a long day, when kids and mommy are cranky and tired, it's nice to sit down and realize that there are moms out there that are WAY crazier than I am :)

I wanted to CRY for that little girl. I cant believe how her mother treated her. GRRRRR.. I was SO MAD. Even my 7yo ds noticed it..

I caught that show before. There was this one little girl maybe 6 or 7 who had lost her front tooth. They bought her false teeth. :lmao: I thought that was crazy because I think little girls and boys are adorable with a toothless smile.

I agree with pp that for a family hobby okay. Good way to make $ for college. But if it is done in the right way were the kids are not put down or made to feel bad. Tonight if I could have walked through the TV I would have bopped the Mom in the nose and hugged that poor girl.

I started watching and got so upset that I had to turn it.

DVR'd it last night and have to watch it when DH is out of the house. It makes him sick!

My feeling is that it does remind me that we aren't such a crazy family after all...

I have fraternal twin boys and DH and I were SHOCKED that a parent (ESPECIALLY of twins) could treat one of thier children that way! :scared1:
I guess she likes BreAnn better since she mentioned more than once, that she is the twin that looks like her

We strive to make sure that all 3 of our DS's feel equally loved, and that each know he is special in his own way. I don't have a problem with the pageant itself - if they want to help stimulate the economy by spending 10's of thousands of dollars on dresses, tans, travel, and eating out - good for them!

The problem I have is how some parents treat thier kids - it just breaks my heart.

I was channel surfing last night:happytv: and also came across this show. I was sick to see how this mother treated the child.
Sad. Really.
I hope after this mother sees her behaviour on TV she considers changing...

I watched it last night and felt like crying. Could the mother have showed more favortism? I hope the dad watches the show and sees what his wife is really like. I was so happy for Ashlynn when she won the trophy. Her eyes were so sad most of the time.

I was flipping and DH thought it would be fun to watch. He was disgusted within minutes and we both could not believe that mother!!!

I caught it for the first time last night too. My dd does competition dance and if it were like that there would be no way she would be doing it.
I was more horrified by Breeanne's behavior. The father was right to over rule his wife and pull that child out of there. The scene at the end where Aslynne is talking about how she won and Breeanne is putting her down was even worse. The mother is not only showing favoritism towards one but is obviously showing the other that she is "better" than her sister.

I like the realistic moms that don't go in there angry with thier child because of something stupid. There's so many things wrong with that show it's not even funny... well not the show but the pageants themselves.

Why is it all the cutsie little pageant girls have these huge plus size moms?? (well maybe not all, but quite a handful are) Are they jealous and want to have thier kids do something for them that they never could??

I also hated how the mother of the twins was obviously favoring one over the other. How sad. You could tell the "less favored" child was very aware of what was going on. :headache:

And what I don't understand - I don't know if the prizes at the pageants are all the same, but to me, the math of winning doesn't work out. From what the moms were saying, there are easily spending $2-3K on these kids' outfits, spray tanning, pictures, etc for the pageants and then the prize, besides the crown, is $1,000. :confused3 I can understand doing it for the sake of enjoyment, and the little kids just want the pretty crown, but I don't see how you could come out ahead with the pageants.

i watch this show from time to time and i think its freakin hilarious!:lmao: These moms are crazy! The little girl, Eden who was on last night, who talks to her moms hand puppets....cracked me up.

Its just one of those things I can shake my head at and say "Really?"

Are you really going to put a flipper in the mouth of that 6 year old?

Are you really going to give a spray tan to that 4 year old?

Why yes! Yes you are!:rotfl2:

Some of them have much, much bigger prizes. I had a friend who paid for her entier college education with them. That was back before all the makeup, fake hair. fake teeth ect. No way no how am I doing that to my DD for any amount of money!
