Oh Sukie. I know this will be a tough Christmas for you and Pikester, but hang in there. :grouphug:

There's an empty chair at your table this year but the day will be full of memories.

The first Christmas w/o my Dad was the toughest. I was so full of emotion that I just sat down and wrote the poem - The Empty Chair. I hang the poem in my dinning room w/ his picture and recite it every year. Helps me get through the holidays from TG to New Years.

Sukie, I know how hard it is. My dear Grandma died on Christmas Eve 28 years ago. I miss her still. I like D&D's idea about the empty chair.

Church was nice. Some friends invited me to dinner afterwards, but I declined. Christmas Eve is traditionally MY time, alone, just me and the doggie. I need this, before the craziness of tomorrow. Still, it was so nice to be asked.

Everyone enjoy your goodies--lasagna sounds yummy!

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas:santa: to all my wonderful friends here. I am so thankful to be blessed with such wonderful friends.

I do hope the coming year brings us a full-fledged meet.

Sukie, just lots and lots of hugs to you and Pikester. :grouphug:

D&DDisney, sending extra your way too.

I want to share just one picture with all of you. We usually don't get a lot of Christmas cards. Our families just aren't into that. But this year, our mantle is filled with love. Thank you one and all.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Good afternoon dear friends from snowy Texas! Good grief it is cold out there! Looks like we are going to have a White Christmas.

Okay, so I noticed that most everybody is probably busy and making quick hit and run posts but I can't take it much longer! I have been away so long that I NEED to do a little more talking cause I missed everyone. Lord knows I can only go so long without one of my loooooong posts! So..... catching up a bit....

Bopsmom, I hope the weather is being good to you down there and you are having fun! Too bad about the missing key and having to be cooking at the last minute!
I feel for you having an emotional 12 year old. I am going to be in full panic mode when my DD hits that age! It ain't going to be pretty around her and I have a feeling my bunch won't make it easy on her. The men folk here rate pretty low in the sensitivity department. Your DD sounds like a pretty smart cookie! I really liked her suggestion of TKr's-Killin'Threads and Killin' Time.
Look we are traveling AGAIN!

M&N, I thought you looked great. I am glad I didn't live up to what you friend was expecting! :lmao: I do try to keep em guessing! DD is such a people person she can charm anybody.
If all you need a DH for is to help when something goes wrong I can vouch for them sometimes not being much help. Mine is a good guy. Works hard. Loves the kids, etc... but when it comes to helping at home BAH! If I ask he certainly will help out but he never notices anything on his own. In my mind if I have to go to all the trouble to ask I would rather just do it myself! Keep your freedom and save your sanity. :thumbsup2

Kitty, I bet the ham is great either way! So when is your birthday? Did I miss it? Happy birthday... just in case. My DS's birthday was on the 20th so he goes through the same thing of gifts all at one time... and then none the rest of the year.
When we were kids we got basics for gifts. My grandmother sewed so we got a lot of handmade clothes. I always hated it! What I wouldn't give now to have her sew for me so something would actually fit and not fall apart!
Everyone should get at least one visit in to Disneyland. It's the original and has a certain charm, I suppose due to that nostalgia. No doubt, it's not everyone's favorite but in our case we really enjoy the compact park versus the ultra huge expanse of the WDW parks. As for Hong Kong Disney.... I have heard it is an amazing park. Maybe I can stow away in your luggage!
Speaking of Santa.... I forgot to mention that Santa called my DD while we were in Florida! We were leaving Epcot and as we got in the car he called and talked to her until we pulled into the driveway of the house which was a good 10 minutes away. When I mentioned that we should get a photo with Santa on our trip she said we didn't need to casue she had already talked to the real one. Thus no Santa picture this year.

Wendy, your kids must have some big stockings to fit all that in there! I guess with all your travels you have learned how to make good use of space. My kids are getting ripped off. If I didn't grab it before our trip they were just out of luck cause I was done. I sent DH for stocking stuffers so they are just mainly getting candy. He must have been in a mood for Reese's cause 3 out of 4 bags have got some form of Reeses's in it. Guess he was planning for his stocking cause I don't think either of my kids even like Reese's. As for gifts, I cut way back but I think your idea of only 3 is an even better plan for next year!
Your Christmas letter cracked me up. Too bad it has been such a rough year but wonderful that you have still been able to find the humor in it all AND still be able to count your blessings. I hope DS can manage to hang in there tomorrow and not ruin Christmas day.

D&D, are you about settled back in? You bet! Swing on by when you visit your family. My gift shopping sounds about like yours.
Thanks for the Santa tracker link. DD has been playing games on the site off and on all day.

BKMETV, Canada meet sounds like one i might even be able to talk the family in to! The only time I ever got close to Niagara Falls they were frozen. :sad1:
Love the details of the airbase's Santa "mission"! Too cute.

Pikester, loved the parrot joke! Along the same line... I saw this one the other day.....
funny-pictures-cat-roasts-by-fire.jpg

LITC, that is just too funny about me looking like your mother! I have never saw anyone else who I thought looked like me but my ex said he dated a girl who did. I always heard that everyone has a double. Maybe in my case I am a triplet!

JOCAmom, hmmm.... missing deviled eggs sounds highly suspicious! Those little eggs are delicious but if I was there to sneak anything out of your kitchen I have to admit I would be looking for the sweet treats.
The mantle looks great! ;)

Sukie, I hope you and Pikester have a wonderful day. Even though it will be different without your mom I hope the bittersweet memories help you all make it through the day without being too sad.

Okay so here's my Christmas day news....
I built up the courage to call my sister who I have not spoken with in a very long time. She sounded happy to hear from me and there is a chance she may even come over tomorrow for dinner. We lost my mother 9 years ago in September and she, my DS, lost one of her DDs 8 years ago this month. After all that our relationship has really suffered and we have not spoken much but it still hasn't kept me from missing my family during the holidays. I turned all sappy and weepy while I was telling my DH that we might have guests tomorrow. I am not sure he understands cause he is perfectly happy not having anything to do with most of his family. Anyway, if she doesn't come it will just be the four of us for lunch and possibly DH's brother. DH will be in the kitchen cooking up 40 dove for our feast, complete with cracklins and gravy. My Step-DD, the SIL, and the GS will show up later in the afternoon. We missed getting our formal invite out to our adopted granny and she went ahead and made other plans so we have to wait til New Years to spend time with her.

DH and DD did their traditional gingerbread house tonight. The kit even came with a tree cookie she is gonna leave for Santa.

Finally, I would like to say that I am very thankful for all my internet pals and feel very blessed to have found you all. Our little corner on the DIS has become a wonderful haven for a bit of sharing, caring, compassion and laughter. God bless you all during the holidays. I hope everyone has a safe and blessed Christmas day!

We got a White Christmas here in Texas! Silly Santa forgot to finish filling stockings so his little helper had to finish this morning.
Today is our puppy's 8th birthday and our calf is now a year old.
Even better than that it is the day to celebrate the birth of our dear Savior.
God bless you all. Off to make coffee, wake up the boys and open those gifts!

Good morning and Merry Christmas!

What a long night it was. DS8 was up at 2:30AM! He could not go back to sleep (I'm thinking it was nerves). Then he was hungry and thirsty. Not long after that he threw up. Poor thing! DH got up to help him since one look and I'd be throwing up next to him. I guess DS8 missed his mark so DH had to clean up the floor, then a little later it was the bedding and then about 5:45AM I cleaned up the bedroom floor. He ended up throwing up one last time while we were opening gifts (He made it to the toilet thank goodness) and now seems to be so-so. He is at the table putting together a Lego set. Not sure how this will effect our going to my inlaws for dinner. My FIL has a few health issues and passing anything along would not be good. I'll give my MIL a call and see what she thinks.

DS12 and DH are playing with our new Wii! :woohoo: They are having a great time and hopefully I can get them off of it.

My Mom and Dad are coming over at 11AM to exchange gifts so I've been getting the place picked up. I did most of my stuff yesterday so it's just the stuff everyone got that needs to find a home.

I hope everyone has a good day!

Awww, Pikester that's the pits! No one should have to be sick for Christmas. Poor little guy. Hope he's feeling better now and can enjoy the day.

Marie, that's just amazing--a white Christmas in Texas! I think ALOT of the country has one this year. I know we haven't had one in eons, but this year we do. But today it's about 40 degrees so we are getting some melting. YAY!

DS was quite enthusiastic about his new digital camera. DD was more excited with her cooking stuff and the Michael Phelps poster! I got a sweater from each of the kids--that should keep me nice and warm!

Getting ready to head out to my parents' for Christmas Part 2. Hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!

We had a wonderful day here. DD8 was awake at 7am but DH told her to go back and lay down for a little. This is after she up multiple times during the night. We all finally got up at 8:30. The kids tore into their stockings and the present opening began. We got the 2 youngest Leap Frog Didj's along with an American Girl type doll. They were both very big hits. My SIL bought them a giant horse to go with their dolls and I thought they would pee their pants with excitement. The older 2 got clothes, clothes, clothes. DD13 changed her clothes 2x today just so she could wear the new stuff.

DS's mom came to pick him up at 1pm today. DH had told her last Sunday when to come. He also told her that he could stay for the week if she would like. Even though the custody agreement has no provisions for holidays, we always try to be nice during that time. Anyways, she calls 10am this morning to see if she could get him earlier. And when DH said no, she was po'd. It's like it's never good enough for her and we are always the bad guys for not giving in to what she wants. I'm sure she wants him to be there for her family but she never remembers that he has a family here. Makes me mad, that's all.

My mom, her boyfriend, my brother, his wife and their son all came for dinner tonight. We had a great time....or I should say the kids had a great time. I won't be able to see my dad until New Years since his wife just had a chemo treatment 2 days ago.

Pikester, sorry DS was sick this morning. Nobody should ever be sick on Christmas. I hope he's feeling much better.

Marie, snow for Christmas....woohoo! I hope you had a wonderful day.

whgrn, tell DD that I'd be pretty excited about a Michael Phelps poster too. Will DS be the new photographer for the family? What kind of camera did he get? DD8 discovered the joys of using my camera so that may be next on her list of things to get.

I hope you all had a love filled Christmas.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. :santa:
Pikester and Sukie  The first Christmas is so hard. So sorry to hear DS was ill.

My MIL sent me a pink snuggie and I think I like it. My DD gave me a neck massager, I giggle every time I turn it on. I think I'll be wrapped up on the couch all winter. DH gave me a bunch of travel books so I can plan our next vacations. He also gave me a DS lite since I've been taking his. He's already downloaded 3 golf courses into his golf gps unit. I think he can't wait to play golf on Sunday.
Our first after Christmas purchase was a new toilet seat. :rotfl: Our old one just plan disintegrated over the holiday.
Dh just came in saying it's time for lunch and a movie. Going to see the Sherlock Holmes movie. Have a fun week. :santa:

DL55, my mom got my dad a Snuggie too! It was the only thing he asked for.

JOCA, I think DS's camera is a Canon SureShot. Or maybe a Sony CyberShot. Some sort of shot...:lmao: It's 9 megapixels. He must have taken 300 pictures already. He was whining that he likes the one DD got better (same type, different model, only 8.1 megapixels). I swear this kid is never satisfied.:confused3

OK, is it just me or does this seem excessive to buy your kid for Christmas when you are unemployed (and have been since May): TWO American Girl dolls (she already has 13 or 14), about 10 DVDs, a couple hundred dollars in gift cards (VISA, Barnes and Noble, iTunes, etc), some computer games, a LAPTOP and a Vera Bradley messenger bag to carry it in, and a wireless mouse? And that's only the stuff I KNOW about--certainly there was some other minor stuff. This is for ONE kid, the other one got just as much, including a laptop. Oh, and one of his games didn't work, so she got up at 5:30 this morning and went to Target to get him a new one to replace that becuase "he really wanted this game and was so disappointed that it didn't work". Her rationale is that "they don't get anything the rest of the year" which is total BULL. Oh, and when their father said he needed clothes, she went out and bought him TEN pair of pants, TEN shirts, and a bunch of other stuff.

I think someone has a shopaholic problem...

OK, I'll climb down off my soapbox now...

Hello friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was great, spending it with family and the new little one made it even better!
Just stopping by for a minute, I am sure everyone is pretty busy anyways. DH took baby Walter to his dad's house for the night, (a place of misery to me) so while they think I got called in to "work" I am actually about to crawl into my nice comfy and warm bed and read a good book - what to expect the first year!!!!
Talk to you all soon!

PS Marie--if I can find one I will try and post a pic of my mom from a few years ago, if I can figure out how to do it.

Good evening ladies...another successful Christmas here! By successful, I mean that we avoided any accidents or fighting.

We spent Christmas eve going to church then to my brother's house for dinner. We all ate entirely too much, but it was so much fun and so good! Then we opened gifts, and I"m glad to say everyone loved their loot. I was worried about the stuff we had gotten for the kids, considering I wasn't too sure what was popular for the teen set. And we like to get them more "practical" gifts--this year was a winter coat and a few other items like a purse or a pair of shoes. Everyone was happy.

My mother's "baby" gift went over so well! It was wrapped non-descriptly so when she got the box open, she kept yelling "I got a baby!". I must admit, the doll does look eerily life-like. But it was what she wanted, and it always feel great to get something that someone really wanted.

It was wonderful to hear that everyone had a lovely holiday. I'm sorry to hear that some of us had a little sadness in remembrance of lost loved ones, but I think it is a testament to just how much you loved them that you can still miss them and want to share your holiday joy with them. They will always be in your heart and looking over you.

I forgot to tell you Wendy, I loved your "real" holiday letter. Its fantastic to know, despite the ups and downs, that everyone survived the year and that there is still plenty of love to go around. I will say, your year was quite eventful!

My mom wants to send it to my aunt (the grandmother of all those perfect children. I said NO WAY--my aunt already thinks I'm an unfit mother, and reading the truth about my kids would just add fuel to her fire.

Glad you had a nice Christmas and that mom liked her baby!

DD is sick. She started off yesterday with a cough and a stuffy nose. Today she says she's freezing, even wearing a sweatshirt over her regular clothes, and she slept most of the afternoon. At dinner she asked if the weather would make her whole body hurt. I told her, "not at 14 years old!" I'm going to check her temperature. If she has a fever, I'll have to call the doctor, since it would mean she likely has flu. I hope not!

Marie, I'm glad DH was able to take your little cutie pie with him and give you some "Mommy Time", rather than you having to go somewhere you dislike so much.

I have a Sony Cybershot. Works well enough for me.
I think that is excessive even if everyone was working. :rolleyes1
Sorry to hear DD is not feeling well. :flower3:

DH is playing golf...can't wait to hear how his new toy worked.

LITC Always take advantage of some "down" time. ;) :thumbsup2

Woo hoo!!!! Made it through the family parties w/o any problems!!! That's always an accomplishment. Well, it's mostly just w/ my family (1 or 2 people that is) where we run into problems.
DH's family get together was very nice. BIL & SIL hosted and put on quite the spread. It was a lovely time and no one was acting fake - just enjoying each other's company.
We enjoyed a quiet Christmas Eve at home eating a special meal, and opening presents that kids bought us. (Each year the kids go to the Dollar STore and buy gifts for the family to give on Christmas Eve.) It works out well as we try to teach them how much fun it is to GIVE instead of always RECEIVING. DS11 bought me a bottle of shampoo and DS7 bought me a glass stocking holder.:lovestruc DH got a CD holder and a glass stocking hanger. The dog got a few bags of biscuits. It is so much fun to watch them as we make a huge deal out of our gifts. They love it.

Our Christmas miracle this year was Disney living to celebrate her 14th b-day on Christmas day. We are so happy to still have her here with us.

The kids received some extra nice gifts from Santa. A few Nintendo DS games, boardgames, books, CDs, Legos, Star Wars characters, ATM bank, DVDs and clothes. They are especially enjoying Nintendo DOGS thanks to Bopsmom's daughter showing them this game when we visited. You get a dog and have to feed it, play with it, pet it, walk it, etc. All this while thier REAL DOG sits next to them watching. :lmao: Go figure!!!

All in all it was a great weekend. :santa: So glad to hear that everyone here also enjoyed their Christmas!!!!:thumbsup2 We sure have a lot to be thankful for!!!!

Hello!!!! I've spent the last day trying to get the house cleaned back up. I can't believe how many dirty dishes their were. Along with all the other normal chores, I felt I spent as much time cleaning up as I did preparing.

I like the camera I have....it just really sucks up the batteries no matter what kind I use.

LITC, I'm glad you had some time to relax and recharge over the holiday. I don't have many complaints about DH's family except they all wait for him to call them. They maybe call once a year and it really bothers him.

whgrn, how the heck do you know my SIL? Ok, she's not unemployed but it's no car, no health insurance, no savings, and usually hardly any food in the house but she and my brother spent about 1200 on their son for Christmas. And this is on top of buying him a new toy every week when one of them gets paid. I just don't understand it.

Good evening! The last few days have been a trial. Both kids have gone through being sick. DS8 was sick all Christmas Day and DS12 was sick yesterday into today. Fingers are crossed that DS12 feels better tomorrow.

The big family present for Christmas this year was a Wii. We've all been taking turns playing either by ourselves or against someone else. I've been kicking butt in bowling but DH has kicked my butt in tennis.

The kids are very happy with the other items they got from us and from the grandparents.

I called my MIL to let her know that DS8 was sick on Christmas Day and that I wasn't sure if we (me and DS8) would be coming out for supper (DH and DS12 would still go). FIL has health issues and I did not want DS8 to pass "it" along. FIL said that if DS8 was feeling better by the time we were ready to go to their house then he wanted DS8 to go and didn't care if he brought "it" with him. FIL wants to see the kids as often as he can while he can. Yes, FIL is that ill. DS8 felt better but he didn't eat much and was ready to go home and go to bed earlier then normal.

So glad that everyone else had a good holiday too!

Good morning all. Santa was pretty good to us and our Christmas was nice and quiet. It seems good to get everything back in order. If I take a nap in the afternoon, I hope to chat later on in the evening with you folks. My last day of work was 12/22 and I don't go back to work until 1/4. I had vacation time left over and didn't want to lose it. I am suppose to be taking a room a day to clean. yea right! :lmao: DH is off looking at snowmobiles. We have one now and he wants to get another one so he can get the grandkiddos to go with him. :cold: As you all know I don't do winter!

I see that everyone is real busy. Hope Santa was good to you too.

Stay healthy.

Chat later.

Sounds like everyone had a merry Christmas, except for Pikester who had two sick kiddos.
Looks like we my get more snow tonight. The birdbath never completely thaws, there's always an iceberg in it. Poor little birds have trouble finding water.
