TKers...8 is NOT enough!

I've really been trying not to post so much but then M&N shows up. Then everything just goes down the drain and before I know it, I posted 20 times. It's really all her fault.

 To missing dads...it just doesn't stop...thankful for the wonderful one I had.

I had a busy day...my friend asked me to take her mom to get groceries. I take her along sometimes with my mom...she lives 2 blocks from me. So then she wanted to take me out to lunch. We worry about our moms eating right. I was to make sure she bought enough yogurt. Her daughter wants her to eat 2 a day...she said she ate 1/2 in the am and the other 1/2 in the pm...so I had to say that her daughter said she was to be eating 2! It's hard playing mom to our elders!

I have only a rhodendrum in front of my house now...it really looks funny. It can't be cut back until it blooms in the spring. I have to decide what I would like out front now. The bricks have to be power washed from where the brick wall was. It was falling apart and came down good. They only had about 8 inches of dirt on blocks in it...no wonder only weeds grew there. Any flower or shrub suggestions? I need something low maintenance. I also want to put a little tree where the big pine was in the yard...it's not a big space. Anyone have a flowering cherry---something that has the limbs like drooping? I don't want something that would grow big after getting all that stuff out.

Ev & LITC - Here's to some wonderful Dads up in heaven! Yours too M&N.
I like to think they all met and are close friends who are watching out for their TKers daughters.

I have had flowering crab trees in the yard and they are beautiful. Oh, and now we have a flowering pear (no pears grow on it - go figure) that is just beautiful in spring and red/orange in fall. Not droopy though. Grows to about 12 feet only.

For the 8 inch dirt area, I'd suggest moss roses. They grow very well in poor soil and are pretty. They are an annual though.

I knew D&D would be around with some answers for you, M&N.

I always see shrubs and bushes that I like in other people's yards but never know what they are called.

Does the flowering crab make a mess like berries or anything?
I have more than 8 in of dirt now. Troy took out a brick wall up against the house that was used as a flower box. It was against my little stoop of a porch and under the picture window. There's a little overhang from the roof and it never got rain so nothing grew. It was falling apart so Troy tore it down. There's cinder block from the foundation showing now...I guess we can put more dirt there...more than a height of a block shows in that part.

No - our flowering crab tree only got tiny berries the size of your fingernail or smaller. Almost all shrivelled (sp?) up on the tree or birds came along to eat them. Never messy on the ground.

Definitely put more dirt in first. It isn't good for the foundation to be showing. Make sure you get enough and slope it away from the house.

Does this area get a lot of sun? Day lilies grow nice w/ little work. YOu may have to water a little each week til they get established but then they will come back each year.
Moss roses grow in full sun and can survive w/ little water. But annuals have to be planted each year.
If you can post a picture I could make some other suggestions

OK---so who watched DWTS? I do think Bruno was unkind to Michael Bolton...there have been others worse than he was in my opinion and they were never given a 3!

No DWTS here. Sorry.
How are Bristol and Florence doing?

Bristol is doing good in her dancing...she doesn't have the outgoing personality to sell the dance--I think someone said she needs to work on her performance. I think it's just the opposite for Florence! Really, for her age, she's ok. I think she was making too much of a joke about it though.

Read this on the DWTS thread and agree with it:

Some of these pro dancers may be great pro dancers and competitors, but that doesn't necessarily make them great teachers or choreographers. When they won their pro dance competitions, their partners were also pro dancers. They didn't have to teach.
I have always thought Chelsie is a weak teacher. I think SHE knows this. So does Anna. I think they know they don't have a snowball's chance in heck of winning this competition. Especially when they keep giving Derek the best star dancer. Maks & Cheryl (if she had a good partner,) are the only other two, IMO, who come even close to being Derek's competition, choreography & teaching-wise.

Just checked the Dis Nascar standings and I am the new leader again. - WOO HOO:woohoo: Granted they are weeks behind, but I'll take it cuz I'm stinkin on the Yahoo one.
