TIW

Just to add to the previous good advice...

Anyone that does enjoy a few adult beverages while at WDW, you don't even need to eat while enjoying the savings.
Many bars (not all) will take TIW even if just having drinks. Martha's Vinyard, Crew's Cup, and Tambu Lounge come to mind. There are many others.

Add the Rose & Crown Pub, Tune-In Lounge, and Ragland Road to Maistre Gracey's list. Still more others.

Many think it's 2%, but they forget about tipping.

Yep.

The 20% discount is on the total.
The 18% gratuity is also on the total before the discount is applied.
The 6% tax is on the food/beverage total after the discount is applied.

So, you actually save a little more than 20% with the tax benefit.

Which I think is another cool thing.

My bet is that if you are not drinkers the TIW would not be a good deal for you.

5 people (not counting the 1 year old) for 6 days worth of eating? Sure they would.

3 of us can make the TIW pay for itself inside a week. And only one of us drinks, and that one barely drinks while out and about.

I guess I'm saying as compared to the current 20% AP discount.

Another thing to consider is whether you're traveling with a group. We went with my parents and in-laws and other in-laws. We paid for their meals at places that accepted TIW. They paid us back. We saved 20%, they saved 20%, we used our Disney Visa and got double points on everything. Everyone wins! There's only so many people, you can cover, though.

True. But I think tigergrad said they have DVC not an AP. So they need to look at the restaurants they are planning to go to, see if there's a DVC discount for it there, and do the math.

True, I'm on board with taking a look and doing the math...
That said, with DVC discount, for 6 days, non drinkers, it's hard to justify the $150 cost of TIW. Now if they visit again in the same cakander year that math may change. That said, if they do than an AP may be the way to go, and nobody knows what those discounts will be in the future.

I'm the biggest TIW fan on the planet, but we eat/drink/park several thousand dollars per year.

TiW is a no brainer to us. We drink, #1. More than any typical meals out as we have no worries about driving. And we tip so it's great that it's already added in for us. I'll never quite understand why folks think using TiW just pays for the tip either. That logic only applies if one wasn't going to tip. Since I'm guessing everyone does, it's still a 20% discount. But if you don't drink I do agree with the others that it does you little good over an AP discount

This is useful to know - I was about to ask if you were at a lounge for just drinks if you could still use the card! :thumbsup2

Are the AP and/or DVC discounts also off alcohol or not?
And we have to add gratuities separately with both of those, is that right?

I'm still figuring out our math as to whether we should get TIW - we have DVC and AP and will do 2 trips from the UK within the year. There's just 2 of us and we might do around 8 x table service meals the first trip, and probably about the same again next trip, and we do like a cocktail! :goodvibes

I plan on upgrading to APs in May when we go and purchasing TIW. We have 10 TS booked for this trip, have a short October trip planned for just hubby & myself, and then will go back in 2018 in April/May to be able to get the most use out of the APs :) I am thinking TIW would be a great benefit to us at that point. We enjoy an adult beverage at pretty much every sit down meal as well.

My friend and I did a girls trip in December and wentback and forth on the best way to dine. We knew that the DDP was not going to work because we did not want CS on this trip, so we decided to use TIW. I chose not to go back and calculate if we actually saved money, broke even or well....you know, did the unthinkable in my book....lost money!

I do think that based on the number of cocktails and glasses of wine we added to our 5 days if dining, we did okay. I know that for us, the discount on alcohol was the reason we decided to bit the bullet and add the card. The wine pairings at signature dinners can add a pretty penny to each bill.

Unfortunately AP and DVC do not cover alcohol. That's really where TIW can have the advantage. Now, will you save $150 on booze in a year?? For us the answer is yes. There are also more restaurants included with TIW.

Good luck with the math!!

I am almost afraid to admit what we saves in under a week! LOL!

Im assuming you can use TiW on the alcohol in addition to the DDP? We usually have quite a bit of additional costs at TS with alcohol added on so it would 20% off of that cost right? Im not driving! We have at least two trips planned(12 days total) one with DDP and one without and was thinking about just using AP for discounts during trip without DDP but we'll do cocktails and wine on both and thinking maybe TiW makes sense if I can use it for both trips.

We have 4 trips planned this year...we covered the cost of the card on the first trip...shamed to say we waited years to take advantage of this card....its the drinks plus we always tip 20%....who knew...?

Yes.

I think you'd have to be ordering at least one drink a day, if not two, to make it worth it per-person. I would have to be seriously convinced to order an alcoholic beverage with every meal! My DH has asked about the TIW discount before but it gets complicated if you're only trying to use it to get discounts off tequila for a solo drinker!
