What is the proper etiquette for the TIW card? Do you mention it during the meal or do you wait until after they bring the check? I didn't think I needed to mention it when making the ADR, or did I?
We will be using it at Victoria & Alberts and a few other signatures, if it makes a difference.

I always present it at the end of the meal when they bring the check. They will re-ring it to put in the discount and gratuity.

We had both the DDP and TIW card on our last trip and we tended to tell our server that we had the TIW card at the start of the meal (when they asked if we were on the DDP).

It didn't seem to really matter when they were told, because they still had to bring the bill, pick up the TIW card, re-do the bill, and bring it back.

We've done it both ways and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Some posters feel that if you tell the server ahead of time they know they will be automatically getting the 18% gratuity and will not try as hard, but we haven't found that to be the case. We consistently enjoy courteous, attentive service.

Most of the time I tell them at the beginning. It makes it easier when they ring up your check because they have to find a mgr. to put the discount through. I usually pull it out and put it on the table and just let them know. Some of the hosts will ask if you're on any type of discount dining plan and they'll make a note of it on the card they place on your table when they seat you.

But no biggie if you wait until they give you your check (it just saves some time if you let them know beforehand, especially at the character meals).;)

When we ask for the check, we hand over the card. This saves time as they have to have a manager handle the transaction. If we're paying with a credit card, we hand that over too.

:)

The only time I will tell at the beginning of a meal is if I am with people on the DDP. Then I will indicate both that we need separate checks and also if they order anything (such as wine) that is not on the DDP to put it on my bill.

I started the trip telling the server at the beginning of the meal when they asked if we were on the meal plan, but all servers said the same thing, no problem, just give it to them at the end of the meal, so eventually i would just put it with my credit card in the bill folio at the end of the meal. i never had a problem with it! :)

I just put the TIW card in with my credit card when the bill is dropped off. I don't mention it at all.
