TIW vs AP Discount Question

We are headed down in November for 7 days/nights, staying at POFQ. I will be getting an AP because of a solo DL trip in May. It basically will be cheaper to upgrade an AP in DL rather than to buy tickets for me at both places. There will be 4 of us at WDW and we have the dining locations listed below reserved for dinner right now. It doesn't look like the Boathouse accepts TIW right now, but it is showing a 10% AP dinner discount. La Hacienda de San Angel also does not appear to take TIW. Do you guys think TIW is worth it for the following reservations. Also, we may drive to dinner for the resort locations, so I think valet parking would be free for those.

The Boathouse
La Hacienda de San Angel
Jiko
Narcoossee's
Tony's Town Square

Thanks,

You are correct. As of right now neither the Boathouse nor La Hacienda accepts the TIW discount. What you need to calculate is your total meal cost. It is at approximately $500 spending that you begin to save with the TIW. Is this your only trip in this year? Add up your food/beverage costs at your planned meals to see. But I bet it doesn't pay for you now.
Good Luck

Unless you're a party of 8 adults, I can't imagine the TiW makes sense for just those reservations.

How long are you staying? Are you planning to eat additional meals at the POFQ food court? Since POFQ doesn't have a TS restaurant, you would receive the 20% discount at the food court there. Just something else to consider when calculating the total costs of your meals and whether the discount would be worth it . . .

We are a party of 4. One dd is 19 and the other is 17. We are driving in on Saturday and eating at the Boathouse that night. The Boathouse and La Hacienda are new to us as they have been added since we were there last. MK has MVMCP on Sunday and the park closes at 7. We are thinking of taking the monorail over to EPCOT and doing some of the food and wine booths for dinner that night. We have no reservations for Friday so we will add another TS at some point, just not sure which one at this point. I have looked at the menus and I imagine we would get at least 2 appetizers, 4 entrees and maybe dessert or 2 but we are not big dessert eaters. We could change La Hacienda, I am kind of looking forward to Boathouse. La Hacienda reservations are at 8 and Illuminations is at 9.

Edited to add, staying one week.

As others have said you need to spend $500 to break even, DS, DIL and myself hit that our second night using the card. We used it at lunch and dinner and we had drinks at most of our meals. We found a few places the TIW website didn't show that takes them actually did, we asked every time we bought food or drinks.

Before going ANY further in the TIW discussion, work out that math.

The longest DL ticket is 5 days. Make it a hopper and you're paying $315.00.

A 7 day WDW ticket, and let's make that a hopper, too, is 424.94.

Per mousemonthly, "As of February 2015, the base price for the Premier AP is $1,099.00. After Florida sales tax, the total cost comes to $1,134.72."

If those two trips are the only trips you're taking, it's NOT worth it to upgrade to the Premier. And that's the only AP that gives both WDW and DLR access. A DL AP doesn't give you TIW; the WDW portion of the Premier is what allows that. Without the Premier, you can't get TIW (unless you're a FL resident or a DVC member).

The DL trip will be a solo trip and I will be there from Saturday through Saturday. The flights I am looking at leave early from the east coast on departure and late from the west coast on the return. That would give me 8 total days, so adding an additional 3 day ticket in DL would bring it to $1,014.94. I know that's a lot of days for DL (from what I have read) but I have never been there so I plan on taking my time and getting in as much as possible. Plus I want to get in the 60th celebration shows as well. My thoughts were that with it being that close, the savings from the DL AP portion on food and merchandise would make up for it. Plus the AP would be good for some discounts at WDW, including 10% at the Boathouse.

Does that make sense? I have never had the Premiere Passport before, but it seems like it would add up.

If you really really would want the 8 days there (we have done it and liked it in the past, but we are odd and unusual LOL...I hope crowds are better for you in May than they were for us this last week, because it was *awful* for us this last week and I'm still decompressing), then it could make sense.

DL AP does give discounts on food and merchandise to a greater extent than WDW gives to passholders. But even with the 3 of us, the discounts had a hard time adding up at DL. And we aren't big merchandise shoppers anymore.

But yeah, if that is your actual plan, and you're not making plans you don't need just to get that fancy card in your hand (since I keep TRYING to make such plans, I wouldn't judge if you are!), then it could make sense for you. Just do all the math. :)

Thanks for the link. That makes things really easy to compare.

I think I do want all 8 days. Since I have never been to DL before, I want to take my time and notice all details and compare the differences between WDW and DL. I am already looking forward to different versions. :)
