I'm planning on meeting up with some friends while in WDW. Do I need to pay for the entire table's check if I want to use a TIW discount? Or can I just pay for my check with it?

In my experience, many locations will take the TiW discount for the table, and then split the check between two credit cards. You never know until you ask, though.

That seems unlikely. In my experience, the rules are pretty consistently enforced:
Tables in Wonderland memberships are non-transferrable. The Tables in Wonderland member must be in attendance at the meal, present the Tables in Wonderland card, a driver’s license or state ID, and pay for the meal, in order to apply the discount.
Credit cards that are used for payment must match the name on the Tables in Wonderland card and the state identification.

I can confirm, this has been our experience as well. You could ask the server if they can do this. It depends on the server, manager, and/or restaurant.
Bottom line is some restaurants are stricter about the policy than others. Some take the card back with them- some don’t even do that. We had a bad experience at ESPN one time where DW left just prior to paying the bill with cash- and they were adamant about not allowing us to use it (because it was just me).
Your guests could give you a Disney gift card which you could then put down along with your TiW card and whatever you are using to pay for your share of the meal.
