TIW if our Party is split into two tables

when we go to Disney for our family Grand Gatherings, we have reservations for 10 or more people. We are more often than not, split into multiple tables, sometimes not near each other. We've had multiple instances where the tables were given separate checks. There are only 10 of us this trip and only one of us has TIW.
Common sense would say that I booked a reservation for a party of 10, regardless of the number of bills, my TIW card should be applied to the entire party. But anymore, I don't think that common sense always prevails.
What does the rule book say if our party of 10 is split into two tables and we end up with two bills.

You can tell your server that your party has been split into two tables, but you are using TiW for the entire party. You are allowed to use the card for the maximum of 10 people per membership. If the server gives you grief, just ask for a manager.

Is it very common for a party of 10 to be split into 2 tables? Our party has 10 people....4 adult and 6 children. I'm starting to get worried that we won't be able to have a meal together!
