I was planning on using TiW for our breakfast ADR at Crystal Palace. I know they add 18% gratuity for all TS meals, and that's fine, since it's what I would have tipped anyway, but it seems excessive for a buffet. I was always told it's ok to tip less than the normal amount at buffets. It's been awhile since I've done a Disney buffet, but is 18% really warranted there? Do the servers do something besides refill drinks and take away plates? If I ask to get it lowered, when should I do so and will I look like a jerk?

Thank you!

All tipping questions must be in the tipping sticky @ the top of the board. Yes, 18% is added to your bill at a buffet. They're not going to agree to lower it just because you think it's too high - that's part of your agreement with using the TiW card.

Exactly.

It is definitely high but at least its not 20 which is more the standard today and we are getting the discount

Oops, sorry, didn't see the sticky. I'd been told that I could ask a manager to lower the tip if the service was awful or something, but I guess not. NBD. Thanks.

Actually servers who work at a buffet sometimes do more work. Clearing multiple plates from the table is sometimes more work than entering in an order and clearing one plate from the table.

If you want to tip less you can ask to see a manager or (no flames please) pay and tip in cash. I have done so twice for terrible service.

You CAN ask a manager to lower the tip if you have lousy service. But they won't do it just because you think it is too much to pay for a buffet.

Closing this now as a referral has been made to the tipping thread.
