TIW(DDE) card now $75

I ordered ours about 2 weeks ago and got it at the $60 rate for our trip two weeks from now. For once I timed something right! My card is good through March, 2010. I'm really glad I didn't wait until we got to WDW to get the card in person.

TIW should be a loss leader for Disney. The purpose of the card is to get us to spend money in Disney restaurants. Raising prices in this economy is a stupid decision on Disney's part. Looks like greed got in the way of common sense. :sad2:

My feelings exactly, but on a side note I don't think anything Iger and his group has done since they showed up has been too smart. JMHO:confused3
Also I did get the reuseable mug and you can get a discount on that too with the TIW card at SSR . They are the new red ones and without asking the CM said it could be used at any resort?????? after we walked away I asked my husband if he had heard the same thing...Yep he said all resorts. Not that I resort hop.

I guess I don't agree with that many here, but everyone keeps saying all perks can go away, and at least on this one it hasn't gone away, just had the price increased. It seems we are always reading threads about how one person will have the card and be able to get the discount for a table full of people, including alcohol. So, maybe Disney thought it was being a little overused and decided to make the cost a little higher..just normal business practices IMO..not any worse than DVCers losing some discounts or perks. We complain about Disney raising things 'in this economy', but they are in the same boat, trying to provide services and keep cast member's jobs, and keep shareholders happy. It's a tightrope and I'm sure they're trying to cut, increase and rearrange things to do the best they can. All of their costs are going up while their income is going down just like everyone else. At least you still get the discount and can still buy the card in the first place.

Knew I should have ordered my TiW card a week ago...but no, I just had to try to squeeze in a few more weeks of use on it. Dang!!!

Glad mine is still valid for this upcoming trip. Even at $75, it is still a great deal for us since it fits our eating habits when we are at Disney better than the DDP, not to mention the discount on alchoholic beverages. We saved a whole lot more than $75 the first time we used it last summer, so our New Years trip and the one this July were/will just be "gravy."

Glad I got mine in January! But I think it's still a deal as long as your using it on a trip that's long enough for your party to recoup the fee with the 20% savings. Now, if they ever decrease the % of savings, then that will put me off more.

I agree, but at least the TIW card is still a great way to save on food for the trip! It doesn't take long to spend $375 at Disney World, and we have our card good through February of next year. Unfortunately, we are traveling in March next year!:headache: LOL, oh well, we already have our price back and then some!

We use/need 2 cards. DH and I do split up at times, with friends and family. An example is in May, I'm heading to Chef de France with some for a dinner before Davy Jones, and DH is staying back at AKV with some for their first time at Boma.

In general, we don't go to WDW to eat or stay offsite. There are exceptions but there are places to eat unique in WDW that we enjoy a lot. There are even some of the counterservice places, like Flametree BBQ that I look forward to eating at. When WDW is not longer our destination vacation experience of choice we'll not be going there as often. Neither DH nor I want to go offsite very much.

We feel exactly the same way, Bobbi, but we didn't get the second card this time.

Well, the price increase seals the deal for me; we will not be getting TIW.
I was hesitant at getting it for $60 but now that it went up to $75, I will be purchasing lots of groceries off site and making our own meals in our room.

Although I agree that Disney has a hard balance to make, a 25% price increase is pretty hefty (again, 25% of $60 is not much).

I think any one change Disney makes is small and insignifcant, but its the combination that is the problem. Disney realizes they cannot cut big items, so they have to focus on the small ones, but the small ones are what make it different and if they are not careful, they will fall victim of too much standardization and will lose their appeal.

Just as a side note, the card was marketed to apply to up to 10 people and the discount was specifically stated to include alcohol. If someone used the discount for a table of 10 people who had drinks, they were using the card the way it was intended, they were not abusing the discount in anyway or trying to get more than was intended with the card.

Ah, but the increase in the end is more than that. The card in essense now costs an extra $75, since that is how much more you must spend just to break even on the cost of the card.

I posted this over on the dining board yesterday after I found it on the passholder website. While a 25% increase is pretty big, I found the price for second card (spouse card) went from $25 to $50 a shock. Now that is greed to double it. I'm afraid to find out what the replacement fee is. It use to be $25. I haven't seen what that increased to. My card expired the end of January and I was waiting until next month to order my new one. Guess my timing isn't very good either.

The increase is $15 - not $75.

You didn't understand what I meant.

The increase for the cost of the card is $15.

The card gets you a 20% discount on meals.

In order to recover the extra $15, you actually have to order $75 more (undiscounted price) in food. I actually was incorrect about the $75, since that was the undiscounted amount - the extra cost overall is $60.

Can the card be used for counter meals also?

Thanks, Kate

It can be used at a select few CS locations...Flame Tree and Pizzafari at AK, the AllStar and POP food courts, and I think Artists Palette at SSR off the top of my head.
