TIW card with DVC AP?

I have ordered an AP for our 12 year old DS (DH and I still have 9 days on a 10 day no exp. pass) and would like to use TIW. I see something that you have to be 18 to get it?? Any ideas how to make this work?

If you have to be 18, then the only way to "make this work" is for you or another adult in your family to get an AP. You could save the 9 days for other trips after your AP expires.

So far we only have the AP voucher, could we have my husband use it and let our son use the 10 day ticket??

My guess is that your husband can use the AP voucher, but (this part is not a guess) that your son won't be able to use the 10-day ticket because it's already "tied" to your husband's finger reading and is non-transferable.

So this TIW card, is that $75 per person?? We have 3 adults (10+) and 3 ages 3-9. I am assuming there still is the usual 18% tip added as we are a party of 6??

It's $75 for one person and can be used for dining parties of up to 10. So unless your family has more than 10 people, you only need 1 card. You can get a secondary card for another adult for $50. This way if you aren't dining together, another person can still get the discount. The other person must also have an AP or be a FL resident. (not sure what the secondary card cost is for FL residents, though)

Yes, an 18% tip is automatically added.

One of my favorite things to do at Disney is eat, so the TIW card is perfect for us. We recouped the cost of it during our last trip, and we have three more trips planned before it expires. Plus I love that you get free valet parking. We usually eat breakfast in the room, pack a picnic for lunch and then eat out at a nice table service restaurant for dinner. I have found it to be a very, very good deal.

We never dine apart so that 2nd card won't be needed. How long is the card good for?? One trip/time use?? or is it like the AP and lasts 12months??

It's normally good for 13 months, depending when in the month you buy it. If you buy in mid-September, it will most likely be good through the following October.

Well we decided to cancel the DDP and try out the TIW card for our Sept Trip. Its oly 2 of us and we both think this will be the best deal for us. I will find out soon.

I think you made the right choice. We spent much less using the TIW card than we did using the DDP.

Thanks for the info. I am still debating on what to do, the DDP or TIW. There is just 2 of us.
DH and I go just the two of us and are not big eaters, so we loose on DDP. We have the TIW card and saved a lot of $$$, in fact our saving covered our TIW and AP. We could also eat where and what we wanted to eat. I think DDP is great for families , but if it is just the two of you and plan on having some drinks I would do TIW. We will at home BCV for F&W Oct 29-Nov 6 with the DH whole family ,and are looking forward to passing the TIW savings on . Have fun. Jenn.

The card must be in the name of the passholder, and the passholder must be at least 21, not 18. Sorry, with this situation I don't see it working.

If you are using TIW at a bar/lounge or a TS restaurant, the automatic tip will be added no matter what size your party is. Even if just one person uses it to buy a beer in a lounge, the 18% will be automatically added.

If you're not using TIW, it's a party of six or more that gets the 18% added.

In the past I always had trouble locating information on TIW, so I saved the link on the Disney website. http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/passholder-program/dining-discounts/

I got excited after reading that the TIW card is for 13 months, until I realized we'll need it for our first night on February 28th. So we'll probably end up with 12 months only and one of those months will be represented by one day.

I remember eating at Teppan Edo last year and a woman had her DVC member card, her AP and her TIW card all out and asked the waiter which one would give them a discount? She later explained that was how she always did it wherever they ate. (FYI, it was the TIW card.)

Don't forget that it also provides for free valet parking at resorts where you dine using your card, so if you normally valet park, that $12 savings each time contributes to making up the $75 TIW purchase price.
love the valet! did not know this. We plan on getting APs for the three of us and one TIW card. We will be eating about 7-8 sit down meals on the TIW list, so we will definitely save!

how does the valet thing work- do you show your TIW card at security and give your ADR #? can you arrive a little earlier if you are looking around the hotel or anything or is there a time limit on the valet?

lol- that is what i will be doing too probably- actually i will try and mark up my list beforehand to know what is the best discount. funny- i think Teppan is one of the few sit downs at epcot that does NOT take the TIW card, but i think has a 10% AP discount. lol :rotfl:

There is no specifically set time limit, but it can not be use for overnight valet parking. And I certianly wouldn't try to use the perk to leave the car and go to a park. They may require an ADR# at the guard shack during busier times at the monorail resorts.

We've used the TiW valet at the GF. We had to show the TiW when the valet took the car. Then Mom went to get her hair permed at the salon, and we followed that with lovely lunch at the GF Cafe, using the TiW card for the dining discount. Then presented the TiW and the GF Cafe receipt to the valet station when we retrieved the car.
