OK, all you math geniuses I need your help.

I am doing an 8 day solo trip in May. I am trying to decide if I should do DDP or do OOP with the Tables in Wonderland card. I know I will be doing at least 4 TS - Crystal Palace, Le Cellier, Brown Derby and Tusker House. I will also probably eat alot of meals at ASMo.

My brain has completely shutdown :crazy2: If anyone has crunched the numbers for a scenario similar to mine, I would appreciate hearing what you came up with.

Thanks!

Hi,

I finished running my numbers last night. I've got a really elaborate spreadsheet. But, then again, I'm a numbers person (I'm an insurance underwriter by trade). I'd say provided you used all the DDP credits the savings % on the two plans are about equal. I used average meal cost from the Allears menus. We've got 5 in our party so I'm saving a ton of money, over $300, with the DDP. The $300 worked out to savings of about 20% not the 30% advertised. But, hey, $300 is nothing to sneeze at so I'm not going to complain about the percentages. We're eating at a couple of the more expensive places, but two of our ADRs are for Character Breakfasts which definitely do NOT maximize the benefit of the plan.

There are three numbers to evaluate when deciding which plan to purchase:

I believe there an upfront charge for the TIW card, as you are a single person will the cost of this card be greater than, less than or equal to the amount you project you will save?

Will you definitely use all your DDP credits?

And this may seem like a crazy question but do you like to drink wine/alcohol with your meal? Unless you buy the wine add on there are no alchol benefits under the DDP but there are under TIW.

Truthfully, if I could have gotten TIW I probably would have, but we're not eligible.

Thanks, 3boymthr!

Yes, there is an upfront cost for the TIW. It's $60 for AP holders. As a single traveler I don't think I would save more than $60.

Will you definitely use all your DDP credits?
If I did DDP, I plan to use all my credits.

And this may seem like a crazy question but do you like to drink wine/alcohol with your meal?
Yes, sometimes I drink alcohol with my meal. And since I won't be driving,
I definitely will :drinking1

Well I will have to give it some more thought.

Thanks for you input!!!

Are you planning another trip within the next 12 month period?

If not, as a single traveller, I'm not certain that the TiW would save you much (if anything) since to cover the cost of the card you would need to spend $300 before you see any savings.

Even if you spend $50 a day (eligible locations) you will save a total of $20 ($400 x 20% = $80 - $60 spent on the card = $20).

You would only have to add 2 more sit down (or 1 more 2 credit place) to match the credits you'd get on the DDP. You can use either your counter service or snack credits at ASMo.

I sit down and figure it all out for each and every trip I take. Depending on my plans, sometimes the DDP works, but there are times using the TiW card is better.
This is what I do..
I check out menus and figure out what I would order, for each meal.
Then, I figure on any counter service meals I would do for each day, and a snack.
I total those up....if they come to less than the cost of the DDP, I will go with that.
But, if it doesn't come out to be less, then I will go with my TiW card. It is the same as not paying a tip, at least that's how I look at it. But, you also have to remember to add in the cost of the TiW card to begin with. I go more than once a year, so it usually is a good buy for me. I usually pay for the card in one trip.
Because of the way we eat lately, the DDP is too high for us. We tend to eat in our room more often now.

Thank you PrincessTricia and Diane!!!

It looks like TIW will not work for me this trip.
