After many years of DDP we have decided to give the TIW card a try. But I do have a couple of questions.
1)When you go to the restaurant do you have to tell them ahead of time you are using the TIW card.
2) It says that you can purchase the TIW card at guest services. We will be staying at BCV and will probably be eating our first lunch when we arrive at ESPN club.So I want to purchase it as soon as possible. Is their a guest service at the resorts where you can purchase it or only in the parks.
3)When you are done eating do you pay right there or can you just have it charged to the room. We are actually thinking about using Disney gift cards.

You can buy it at the International Gateway GS window. You can pay with cash, credit, gift cards, or room charge. Technically, payment is supposed to come from the TIW cardholder, so no splitting bills between credit cards. You don't have to tell them you have the card, but if you don't, closing out the bill may take a little longer.

We purchased ours at the International Gateway (back entrance of Epcot), always paid with room charge and always told the server up front that we were using TIW. There are also some counter service places (Flame Tree BBQ in DAK for example and some of the lounges/bars in the resorts (I believe the one at BC near Cape May Cafe takes it). We always ask when placing our order they take TIW (or any discount - AP, DVC, Disney Visa, etc...)!

1. WE always confirm in advance with the server - 'cause just about everything at WDW comes with the caveat "subject to change/availability"
2. For BCV it's a 6 minute walk to Epcot international gateway entrance - you don't enter the park - then 5 minutes to ESPN. There's also a guest services at DTD if you wanted to eat lunch there.
3. They are getting a little more sticky about checking who pays (the TIW card holder) - changed to the TIW cardholder's room or any cash/giftcards from that person should work.

Does it have to be a park guest services and/or can we order it prior to arrival? We will be arriving late to AKL and our first day is a non-park day and we have an ADR for an early lunch at Sanna we wanted to use TIW for that.

I'd put on the link with info, but computer is being weird...see tablesinwonderland.com

You can order it in advance. The expiration date will be based on the date that it is sent. That may be important, depending on the rest of the trips you plan on using TIW over the ensuing 12-13 months. You could just take an AK park bus to GS at AK and then bus back. Probably wouldn't take an hour.

We do not plan on being back within a year so ordering in advance may be best. We will be coming off three very long days at Universal - probably not checking in until 9-10 PM. Was really hoping to sleep in that first morning and leisurely make our way to lunch.

Does it take a while to be mailed to you? 6-8 weeks kind of thing?

Not sure on the timing by mail. You would think less than 2 weeks, but it might be best to call.

I just looked at the website. It looks like maybe only AP holders can call to order. That does not apply to us. I guess we may be looking at an early morning round trip to a park or just not getting the discount on lunch. :-(

Oh yeah. DVC members cannot order by mail. Forgot about that. Bummer.

If you go to the International Gateway, use the booth on the left. The booth on the right is just tickets.

If you purchase the card, say May 1, is it valid for May plus 13 months, or just 13 months? Thanks everyone for sharing your expertise!

When we purchased our card it was good until the end of the 13th month, so I would expect a purchase in May 2014 to be good until the end of June 2015.

Where can I purchase it at MK? We are going there our first day and plan to use it at dinner.

Their is a guest services right there at the town hall as soon as you go into the park to the left

Sorry to hijack but my brain is not working this morning. What is the DVC price for the TIW card, what is the AP price are they the same? TIA.
