Tivoli Gardens

I just got back from an awesome trip to the Baltic. Highlights included all of Norway (found the same giant troll from the EPCOT Norway shop sitting at a train station), and a couple days in Russia (amazing).

We also spent some time in Copenhagen, so I had to take a look at Tivoli Gardens, which, I've always been told Disney visited and took some of the ideas for Disneyland.

What I expected (and was told I'd see everywhere):
- Gardens. Flowers, trimmed hedges, all lit up at night,
- Kiddie rides. Boats in ponds, and some other small stuff,
- A coaster or two thrown in,
- A quiet place. Overall, the image that I had was that it would be pretty boring.

What I got:
- Flower gardens that hadn't been weeded in weeks, and had been trampled by people. Nothing impressive. My back yard looked better after I'd been away for 3 weeks.
- Thrill rides crammed in on top of one another.
- Huge crowds of drunk, 20 somethings pushing and shoving. One guy filled his mouth with beer, and sprayed it out over the crowd. This was clearly the place where the youth of Copenhagen could go out at night, get drunk, and run wild.
- Trash everywhere. In fact, there was a used condom laying in line for one of the coasters (and it was, uh... fresh).

The place was a dump. One of the worst parks that I've ever been to. It was everything that Disney ISN'T.

Anyone else ever been? Is this a recent downhill slide? Or has it always been like this?

I went about 10 years ago. Copenhagen was a stop on our cruise.

I didn't really know what to expect but, like you, was aware that Disney thought highly of the park. I wasn't impressed. We spent a few hours there on the night we arrived in Copenhagen and that was more than enough time. I thought the park was a bit dirty and everything just seemed so "old". I didn't quite experience what you did though....thankfully! :teeth: I suspect it was a little nicer during Disney's days.

In 2007 we went there. We visited during the morning and our hotel was not too far away, so I could have gone back to spend more time. I didn't feel it was worth it.

Wow I've been to DK twice and always regretted not making it to TG. I think now I'm glad I didn't!

Sorry you had a bad experience. :( I'm sure it wasn't that horrific in Walt's day. The pictures of Tivoli Gardens on Google make it look quite lovely, too bad that is no longer the reality.
