It is my understanding that I can record up to TWO programs and this whole multiple channel thing has me confused.

(EDITED TO NOTE--I made a mistake...my primary complaint is that I can only record ONE show anyway)

I'm TIVO'ing Will and Grace right now but it will not let me watch anything else while it is on or it will stop recording.

To my knowledge--I have NOTHING else recording! So if I'm supposed to be able to do 3 things at once--why is it only letting me do one thing?

I did see twice earlier today that it would notify me when it wanted to switch to a program that it thinks I would enjoy (I said no) and it is recording a program regularly that I didn't subscribe to. But this was earlier.

I'm even getting programming conflicts when pre-selecting programs as well.

Help--I am not a techno persons--can someone break it down in simple terms and tell me what is up with my TIVO.

What am I missing?

See the big round button on the controller that has 4 arrows on it?
Push the bottom arrow and that will tell you what the other channel is hat is recording!

You can tape 2 programs and watch something you have already Tivo'd but you cannot tape 2 and watch a 3rd channel.
Make sense?

Are you figuring it out?

If you want to pick out other programs to tape, hit the GUIDE button and a grid will come up with all the programming for tonight. Use the side arrows to pick your shows and hit the SELECT button and it will walk you through the rest of the way!!

I love my Tivo and one day just sat around playing with the controller and seeing what each button would do, it was trial and error at first and then I was hooked!!!

Okay--well I can't tape 1 and watch another.

The big arrow says it is ALSO recording W&G on channel 382.

I didn't tell it to do that. Why would it record the SAME show on TWO channels?

Okay--just fixed it and had the other channel stop recording. Thanks for that tip!

Unfortunately you can not record two programs on two different channels and watch a third channel. If you have an info button on your remote, press that and it will tell you what is recording. If there is only one light lit, one program is recording. If both are lit, two programs are recording. I have found that sometimes it will ask me if I want to cancel a recording a couple of minutes before a show is suppose to start recording. Why I don't know, I will usually just stay on the channel let the program start recording and switch channels. It will record on two different channels if the television is off.

Note--I did say record this showing..not season pass or anything. I don't understand why it would record the same program airing at the same time.

Just noticed we are all in Florida. Kind of like being in traffic and seeing 3 cars all in a row, same color, same model.

Okay maybe not!! Back to our regular posting! :goodvibes

I love my TiVo as well. However, I believe, (and may be wrong, though that is rare ;) just as my DH) that your tv has to have two tuners to record two shows at the same time. As for the third, you would just put the tivo in stand by as it records the other shows and watch the one you wanted to watch in real time. BTW, I absolutely hate watching commercials and rarely watch anything live any more and when I do I forget and try, without success, to fastforwad through them.

Haha!

Another thing I don't understand--for my girls..I got season pass of Clifford for example. I expected it would be one clifford one channel one time---but it records ALL of them.

I like the convenience--but it all seems kooky!

When you first told Tivo to record Will and Grace, if you went into the To DO list, it will search for the particular show on whatever channels it finds it on.
Do you also get NBC out of New York and LA?

I pause it and do something else for a few minutes. That let's me zip through some while not having to wait forever for it to start. :teeth:

First question--Nope--it was on and I said oooh--I want to record it and I pressed record from channel 2 (WESH) where it was on and said this showing. And then it said please wait and it was sitting there a really long time.

I don't know which other NBC it was--but it was 382 and definitely another NBC feed.

I do that as well, but it is still annoying. Sometimes I forget about it and lose some of my show. Other times I just decide to record it and come back later. I can't believe I actually yelled at DH when he first bought this thing. We have actually upgraded since then. :teeth:

We have a television in the Master that is 6 months old. Apparently I paused just a little too much with the Tivo in there and caused a little bit of a green hue in certain spots of the TV screen.
We took it up to Best Buy and they ended up giving us a new television at that one was still under warranty, but the guy at Best Buy said "don't pause for too long on any TV as you will "burn the image" into the screen" or something like that.

So I only pause for a second or two if I have to.

My hubby got quasi-yelled out. Claimed it was the family Christmas present. I said "nice try". thankfully--something more sparkly came on Christmas morning. :sunny:

I have an older Tivo and believe that I can record one program while watching a program from my list (previously recorded). Haven't tried recording two shows at the same time.

Ours only records one show at a time as well. I believe there is a tivo available that records two only if your tv has two tuners, (capable of picture in picture). However, as I said before if there is two shows that I want to watch I record on and put tivo on stand by and watch the other one live.

Mine has two tuners. Until just a few moments ago--I couldn't figure out why it was only recording one show and evidently it is b/c it records both showings of it at the same time.

I wish there was a way to fix this in my season pass for those shows. :(

There IS a way to fix it Lisa!
Just go to the List Button and hit Will and Grace it will give you choices there under the show listing to Play-Delete get a season pass etc. you can clear your season pass here or you can go to the TO DO LIST and do it there.
That should clear it and let you start over.
