Titanic movie question. Do you think Caledon Hockley adopted the girl he saved in the lifeboat? I know it’s a fictional part of the movie but in your own head cannon what do you think happened to her?

Another question. What do you think happened to Rose’s mother? Did she have to become a scrubwoman or a seamstress to survive? Or even some sordid type of work?

Spoiler alerts.

Caledon Hockley read A Modest Proposal, took it a bit too literally and ate the kid.

Rose's mother ended up in Nevada at the Mustang Ranch.

There were always 2 things that bothered me about the movie:
  1. Rose throwing the necklace into the ocean. Knowing the guy was looking for it, she could have given it to him, or perhaps her granddaughter. Thankfully, there is an alternate ending to the movie that, I think, is much better.
  2. You survive the sinking of the Titanic. You're rescued and taken to shore. After you catch your breath, wouldn't you immediately look through the list of survivors to see if your fiancée or your daughter might be listed? So, you go through the list looking for Rose Bukater. When you don't find her, wouldn't you then look for Jack Dawson? Assuming the names are listed alphabetically by last name, wouldn't you then notice the name: Dawson, Rose?
I know....I really need to get a life! Lol

Caledon saw the error of his way, and sought out solitude in the farthest jungles. There he decided to atone for his sins and he became The Phantom, masked crimefighter. They made a movie about this.

I still haven't seen Titanic nor The Phantom, but my answer should satisfy your curiosity. Buzz, you've come full circle now finally knowing the truth. Do yourself a favor, find a quiet moment to reflect on this closure. Tomorrow I'll be here to provide the answers to your Ace Ventura questions!

Cal definitely did not adopt that girl, and even if he did knowing what old Rose says about him losing his fortune in the stock market and then committing suicide that poor girl wouldn’t have stood a chance sadly.
Roses mother probably did marry a widower as she did weasel her way up so to speak. But she probably does not long after, and I wouldn’t be shocked if she had to sell whatever else she had left (which wasn’t much-Rose took all her paintings with her and they took most of their jewelry and wardrobe)

Rose’s Mom probably didn’t even pay attention to Jacks name because he was “so beneath” her.
And if Cal had taken the girl and adopted her she be an orphan again even as a young adult because after the Wall Street crash a several years later he killed himself.
2) I think Rose was a nutter when she threw the necklace back in the water just saying lol

A "gentleman" of Cal's standing, even a fake one, would be morally and socially obligated to financially support his dead fiancee's mother for a while, until she found a suitable husband. Otherwise he'd lose face with his crowd, and he's never let that happen.

He probably introduced her to some rich old coot widowers and she married after about a year since that was really her only remaining option.

I figure he washed his hands of her as soon as he could and she was probably glad to be rid of him. We know how he abused Rose and he supposedly had some feelings for her. It would have been a lot worse for her mother, even if he did know how to hide it.

He would have abandoned that girl before the lifeboat hit the water. She was a tool, nothing more.

I am thinking no one could sell the necklace without having some legal trouble since it had been reported lost and an insurance claim filed. Rose may not have wanted to risk getting anyone in trouble and just disposed of it instead. After all, she didn’t take it from the ship thinking she would use the proceeds to support herself. She discovered it by accident.

I doubt if anyone in first class except Rose bothered to remember Jack’s last name after they all had dinner together, due to him traveling in third class. It just wouldn’t have been something important to them.

This is like the best post ever!

Agreed, the necklace was seen by rose as oppressive. She knew it wouldn’t bring anyone joy.

I'm sure Cal would not have hung on to the child. He only gave her a scornful glance when he came across her the first time and didn't help her until it benefited him. Hopefully her mother survived and she was reunited with her.

As for Rose's mother, I agree that Cal would have supported her, they seemed to get along and had the same ideas about class, and eventually he would have found a rich widower for her to marry.

If Rose's mother didn't recognize Rose's name on the survivor lists, you'd think she would have recognized her when Rose's work as an actress started making the rounds. Not sure if Rose was a stage actress or a movie actress, but if Rose's mother ever saw a photo of her she would have known who she was instantly.
