Has anyone charged the tips to a credit card? Does it seem impersonal?

We always make sure to have enough cash with to tip cash.

Disney makes it easy to charge tips to your credit card. There is a sheet handed out with "suggested" amounts and you can add to it as you see fit. Then turn it in at guest relations. They give you an envelope with a little card for your server/ asst. server, head server, room steward. You can hand it to them personally on the last evening or morning. Then they are paid by DCL through your credit card.

I think the server, assistant server, head sevrer, and stateroom host only care about the amount of the tip, not whether the tip envelope contains cash or a tip receipt from Guest Services.

In either case, you can decide the amount you want to tip. And in either case, you present the envelope on the last evening.

Charging the tips to your onboard account (which you settle with the credit card that you have on file) is convenient and safe -- for you and for the recipient of your tip.

We did ours via Credit Card, and the staff was quite appreciative. One said it was better because it meant they were "already paid" which I assume meant they didn't have to mess with cash or whatever other forms of payment you might want to make -- it must have went right into their account.

I agree that the key here is that you cared enough to tip them. Also, I'm heavily in favor of dropping by the restaurant for just a few minutes before you leave to deliver the tip personally (since we didn't eat breakfast the last day). We let them know we were very pleased with their service. Our server (Ganesh from India) thanked us several times for not only the tip, but for showing up to deliver it in person.

If I were an employee it doesn't seem to matter to me whether or not they were charged, HOWEVER Cash speaks volumes.

I have already put away the tips in an envelope, separated out by person.

Yes, it is 6 months away, but I set those aside and now they're done.

I have some relatives in the Server industry and they say they prefer cash tips to charged. Something to do with the IRS, perhaps? I don't want to get involved in that......

Unless they are US citizens, the tipped positions don't pay taxes to the IRS. I don't think that DCL is obligated to report tip amounts to any taxing authority.

We always tip the standard amount on our charge card and then add any extra in cash (we usually throw in phone cards too). That way, they have all sorts of things to sort through when they get our envelopes! The phone cards seem to add a personal touch...we've gotten many appreciative comments.
