TIPS: Star Wars Weekends 2011

Hi all!

I have been following & lurking along here for awhile (months...lol) and figured I better say hi!

I'm a regular at WDW and DVC member, but this is my first SWW trip. I've been dying to go for so long, but it never worked out until now! I'm staying at the Boardwalk for a week starting 5/18....soo excited!! All my ADRs are made and now I'm just waiting for the specifics to be released so I can do my planning!

I had seen a few people ask about tattoine traders and thought I'd pass this along:
http://www.startours2live.com/news, they're updating pretty frequently as news comes in re: star tours 2. They recently posted that tattoine traders is closed for 2 weeks as well as info on the opening ceremony for the attraction.

Besides that....

Is anyone working on anything crafty for SWW besides autograph books? For other trips I've done the mickey tie dye shirts and some shirts that I did applique on - one is a mickey head with the mad hatters hat & hair - which were fun. This time I'm thinking of making my own SW mouse ears.

I'm going to make some custom T-shirts out of some Disney SW mouse bubble from the DISigner Shadowwryter. I'm going to try to add Dom13 Disneyfied SWW 2011 or namefills to the shirt as well. It's my first t-shirt attempt if you can't tell:rolleyes:. I am primarily a scrapbooker, so I'm sure I'll have some of that after the fact.

I would love to see your Mickey Tye Dyes! I love those & wouldn't mind making some of those either. My kids are old enough to enjoying making those. Any tips?:cool1:

We have matching family T-shirts. (I need to post a picture, because they are awesome!) For my daughters, I am going to make some hairbows to match the shirts. I've been looking on ebay and found some great pins/buttons I could use on the bows. I'm going to Hobby Lobby tomorrow and will force myself to check out the ribbon.

Just wanted to let you guys know:
I was at DHS today to meet and get my copy of Kingdom Keepers 4 signed by Ridley Pearson  and started talking to a manager there.
First of all this should be treated as RUMORS...we all know what that means...anywho; she told me that all managers and people in charge of SWW are expecting HUGE crowds for May 20, between SWW ,the opening of the new Star Tours and there will be a big press event with big names expected to come (George Lucas). She said that they are projecting wait times for Star Tours to reach the 4 hour mark, with the qeue going all the way into Streets of America, she doesn't think that they will offer FP's on that first day to give everyone the same amount of wait times...
As I said these are all rumors but it's not out of the question. Disney has blocked out that first weekend to Cast Members, meaning that they can't use their card to get family or friends into DHS so they don't want any additional people without a regular park ticket. It will be super crowded so if your plans are in any way flexible and you don't mind not being there for the first day of SWW avoid DHS. Just a friendly observation

I used the fiber reactive dyes from Dharma Trading Co. so there were more steps than the rit dye you get at the local craft store, but you could use either. I got the basic instructions here on the DIS boards (I'll find the link & repost if you want) and just tweaked them to what I wanted after several trial runs.

Here's a link to some pics of some tie dye ones & some of the applique ones too. My Flikr Set

All American:

I'd love to see your hair bows when you're done! I've seen a bunch on etsy, but always think it would be so much cheaper to just make them myself.

4 hours? Crazy! I expect it to be pretty insane that first day. Not sure about anyone else, but I feel like if I just recognize it'll be crazy, then I'll be able to let go & just go with it. It also helps that all FIVE of my kids will be staying HOME! It's just the two of us going and that makes it much easier!

Why in the world would they set the very first day of the new Star Tours as the first day of Star Wars Weekends?? They know that's going to create a mob scene.

Ray Park (Darth Maul scheduled to attend the last 2 weekends of SWW. Here's the source: http://sww.studioscentral.com/main/
That would make weekend 3 with Ray Park and Jeremy Bullock and weekend 4 Ray Park and Peter Mayhew. Still no word who will be the second celeb for weekends 1 or 2 with Anthony Daniel and Ashley Eckstein the only confirmed celebs by Disney. Another guest celeb that has sent emails and on his FB page that says he's coming is Tom Kane for weekend 4. So I'm thinking it's going to be the same set up as last year. Two hosts (Ashley and James) 2 SW celebs and 1 Clone Wars Animated Series Celeb.

Definitely. I just ordered the buttons I want to use. There's one with the Death Star, which I needed to match our T-shirts. One with a StormTrooper. A creepy one with Palpatine--may send that one straight to the trash. There were a couple of others (they came in a set). It's tricky to find "girly" Star Wars stuff, and I figured this would be the best way. I'll post pictures when I finish.

Realistically what time should someone get to the park to try to get Ray Park's autography on Sunday June 5th or Friday, June 10? Also how bad would it be for Peter Mayhew on the 10th? My husband would like to get those autographs (he has the others) but if he has to get there at 3 AM that may change some things.

Peter Mayhew will be the easiest. He's been to many SWW and also he signs super fast so he can get alot of people thru in each session, Ray is a bit more popular but still since he's here for 2 weekends it shouldn't be that difficult. I believe that to be sure to get a guaranteed FP by being in line around 6:30am he should be fine.

Dee Bradley Baker (voice of the clones in the animated series) confirmed via twitter that he will attend SWW May 27th-29th. So we almost have the full line-up!!

So it would be Ashley Eckstein and James Arnold Taylor every week as hosts.
Weekend 1- Anthony Daniel
(one more star wars celeb and one more clone wars?)
- plus rumors of Lucas for star tours re-opening

Weekend 2 - Anthony Daniel
Dee Bradley Baker
(one more sw?)

Weekend 3 - Ray Park
Jeremy Bullock
(one more cw?)

Weekend 4- Ray Park
Peter Mayhew
Tom Kane

I think that's right so far.

That'll be awesome! Where did you find them? I made a hairclip out of the stormtrooper pin with mickey ears - had my DH cut off the pin part. But I didn't know there were buttons out there somewhere! (duh! Of course there are, its star wars!)

I'm getting excited! I think my DH thinks I'm obsessed with looking for updates online about SWW and Star Tours 2.

Is there going to be a meetup for day 1 of SWW, even though it will be a zoo. I'm headed straight for the ride asap.

I am loving that I found this thread so I could get some more info ofSWW. It was fate that I booked our trip May 29-june 3 because I didn't know about SWW. My son is a big fan and very excited about this. We will be going on our last day and I booked a flight that leaves at 9pm, so I think we will be able to stay till 4 or 4:30 (No Hoopla:guilty:)

My son has CF and will be in a special needs stroller but can walk (needs for endurance), and would really like to see more of the character than actors. I thought it would be cool if he could do the parade as well. I figured we would try to do JTA another day and head over to where they pick for the parade to try to get him in. We will than head over to Darth Vader's line since my DS would love to meet him. Does that sound like a good plan?

Also we have ADR's for my sons birthday at 50's Prime Time Cafe at 12:50. Does that give us enough time to enjoy the parade and get over there with out a mad rush?

TIA!!!:thumbsup2

Oh, I love that you were able to cut of the sharp part of the pin. I was wondering if you could. (I don't have any at home to test out). Looks like I'll be on ebay again. (That's where I got the buttons. The ones I got were only the size of a quarter, and I figured that would be a good size--not too big, not too small.)

We may need a "crafts I've made for special events at Disney" thread soon. :rotfl:

Would you be interested in a breakfast INSIDE Disney's Hollywood Studios BEFORE park opening on Sunday, May 22 during opening weekend for Star Tours and Star Wars Weekend? Here's your chance. You're invited to join us!

The breakfast would be in the Backlot Express (right next to Star Tours) on Sunday, May 22 from 7-9:30a. When the park opens at 9am, we would be right next to Star Tours, and you would be among the first in line for Star Tours (you will need theme park admission if you want to stay in the park after opening).

This would be an event for charity with all proceeds going to Give Kids The World. Based on what Disney would charge us for the food and venue, in order to raise funds for GKTW, the cost would be $50/adult 10+. Children ages 3-9 would be $25, and children 2 & under are free.

People line up incredibly early to get into Hollywood Studios for Star Wars Weekend, and there is going to be a huge demand for the new Star Tours ride. You will still need to get to the park early, but why not come join us, have breakfast, and wait comfortably right next to the new attraction?

Based on this information, would you be interested in attending? We're trying to see how many people are really interested before signing the contract with Disney.

For more information, please see the following thread.

Dave, This sounds like such an awesome event! If we were going that weekend I would be there in a heartbeat!!

I really want to encourage all DISers headed to SWW on this date to strongly consider doing this breakfast! Not only is it a once in a lifetime special event (hosted by a one of a kind DIS senior correspondent), it gets you closer to the action than you could ever dream of and most importantly you will helping out an incredible charity (Give Kids the World) that truly makes a difference in lives of those it touches.

For the cost of plane ticket and room I'd help co-host. ;)
