I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share little tips and tricks that they used, or know of, to make a wedding more unique, special, and personalized.

I'm having an intimate wedding and while I can't spend a whole lot of money on extra upgrades (though I'm working lots of overtime right now so I can have SOME options! :surfweb: ) and I'd love to add special touches to really make my wedding something everyone will remember and make it unique.. and not just a typical disney intimate wedding, you know?

I want my guests to walk away from the ceremony and entire trip just going "wow! that was the best wedding I've ever been to!"

thanks everyone!

In my experience, the one thing that makes a wedding unique is to put a little of yourself and your fiance into every detail. This is not only true of my own wedding, but every wedding I have gone to in the past. I always remember the weddings of those people who clearly put a lot of time - not money - into everything.

For example, my table names were a few layers of simple 5x7 cardstock that we printed on our laser printer ourselves. We did not spend a lot of money on them, but we did spend a lot of time on them. Pete (my DH) and I wrote little stories about our relationship and the title of the table was a key word from the story. Instead of "Table 1" and "Table 2", we had "Engagement" (how we got engaged) and "Ireland" (about our driving trip through Ireland). People were walking around from table to table to read them all, and that led to people mingling and having a better time.

We tried to put a personal spin on every detail. On each of the girls' bouquets was a (cheap) rhinestone pin with their first initial. We put together a CD of significant songs to not only me and Pete, but included the songs from our dances with our parents, etc. I made the invitations, programs, etc. etc. While they looked rather professional, we saved so much money on the programs that we could include extra pages. One page had an entire paragraph devoted to thanking our guests. We wrote our own vows and also included those in the program.

We got so many compliments after the wedding. They weren't about the food or the flowers or even the location. They were about how much the guests appreciated all the effort we'd put into making them feel like a part of our relationship, and therefore how special they felt to be a part of the celebration of our relationship.

I have more examples, but the point is that you sit down and try to make every detail (big or small) about you and your fiance, as well as your guests. That means we, here on the board, might not be able to tell you how to make your wedding special - since we don't actually know you. But once you come up with some ideas, the girls here could definitely improve upon them and help you make them better.

I'm a firm believer: a unique wedding is a personalized one.

can I just say, thank you and wow! I bet your wedding was absolutely beautiful! What great ideas... I will definitely be taking the time to think about how we can personalize things...

I think I'll make get a notebook and just start jotting down ideas and memories that he and I have together and see where I can go from there.

I love the idea of telling stories that you and your husband have.. memories that no one else knows (but would love to know! ) .. what a beautiful touch.

thanks again!

for our guests, just having the disney wedding was memorable for them...how many people do that?

We did do a DVD movie instead of a slideshow, and gave out copies as favors, that was different! We had interviewed our friends and family, scanned old pics, etc. DH is good at that sort of thing and really likes to do it. Our dvd had extras on it too, trailers, outtakes, tribute...

Definitely take something that you and your DF like to do/are good at...

I love IrishCinderella's ideas... :)

good luck!

What a fabulous keepsake!

Luna~The notebook is a great idea...I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Yes! They are right! Put something personal into every component of your wedding.
For me... I made a lot of things for our wedding because I enjoy crafting. I would look at ideas in magazines and books and think, "how can I make it my own? How can I tweek that idea so it looks truly unique to my wedding?" I also really thought about me and my husband's personalities, and the things that we really like. Every time we made a decision for the wedding we asked ourselves, "Would we like to be a guest at this wedding?"
I hope that helps! :flower3:
