Tips on Grand Californian

My husband and I are taking our 2 boys to Disneyland in the middle of this month. We have stayed in WDW many times but this will be our 1st Disneyland trip.

I booked the Grand Californian and requested a Theme Park view. I know when I request this in WDW at the Contemporary we get a great view of the Magic Kingdom, fireworks, etc. I was wondering if the theme park view offered anything special besides the ability to se Ca Adv. I understand there are no fireworks in CA ADv so I guess that is out.
Is there any specific request I should make upon checkin (Higher room vs. lower, etc)? and is the theme park (aka resort view) the best one to request?

Well, when I have stayed there, we actually got a DTD view, although we didn't have a view of DCA, we could see the fireworks from our balcony (which GCH is the only Disney-owned that you actually have a balcony with tableds and chairs). We also love to people watch and we were right in the middle of it all. We had a room on the third floor - I think there is 6 floors and the 6th is actually Concierge.

DCA is beautiful at night, but there are no fireworks... You will love this hotel - it's so close to everything and especially nice when you get soaked on GRR and have the ability to walk to your room change your clothes and be back in the park in the blink of an eye.

I second everything only1mouse said. When we stayed at GC with DTD, we stood on our balcony and watch the fireworks. It is the view that I reserved for our visit this December. But I have heard from lots of people who LOVE the theme park view. Either way, this is a beautiful hotel and you don't get any closer to the parks!
