I know tips are included on the dining plan.. in 01 I was there on the dining plan and one waiter told us to order the most we could as disney tips and we didnt' have to... but do you tip anyway?? if so.. how much?

The tips are included in the plan but I think if we get exceptional service we will be giving extra for a tip. How much extra depends on the service. My DH is a big tipper so that is what we are used to doing in the first place. Of course if he goes overboard I may have to rein him in a little.

A 15% tip is included in the dining plan. Our service was very good at every table service - usually had a refill before we even asked, seltzer water was offered for a stain, etc. - so we always added so the tip would be at least 20%. I never felt our servers were looking for an extra tip.

We asked at our first TS meal last week if they were tipped the full 20% we normally would do for great service and were told they got 15%. At each of our TS meals, we gave an additional 5%. All of the wait staff were very grateful for the additional money.

I plan on tipping even though we are on the dining plan. Maybe not another 15%, but at least 5-10% more depending on service. Since the plan was free, I feel like I can do this. Plus if we order drinks not on the plan, I will tip fully on them.

I'm actually bringing a bunch of $5s with me to put on the table as supplemental tip when I feel it's warranted.

Count us in! I feel that this is one of the most demanding jobs--I would NEVER want to do it. That said, we always tip at least 20%.

We tipped if they did something extra, like we asked to pay out of pocket for an additional kid's drink and they just gave it to us for free. So we left enough to cover it plus a little extra. (Though I forgot to at one place. Sorry waiter!)

I like that answer about "the dining plan is free, so we can tip extra"... that's the spirit!!! Those servers work so hard, and often don't get very much in return. Show your appreciation for their hard work! :sunny:

We will be tipping on the dining plan according to the service. Buffets included. If the drinks are refilled in a timely matter or extra service is given, why not tip at buffets? The rate on the dining plan is 15% but the usual tip is 20%, so if the service is acceptable, another 5%. Exceptional, 10-15% at the TS. :flower: :flower2: :flower:
Sorry, I meant 15-20% Hit the wrong number!!! :confused3

Tipping is one of those instances where an extra $2 can make a big difference to someone. $2 (which is an extra 5% on a $40 order). $2 won't break my bank (I'm going to Disney, and staying at a Disney resort, I can afford an extra $2). However, my giving an extra $2 will be very impactful on the server.

On the dining plan, can you somehow add the extra tip on to your room charge (since they aren't really putting anything to it), or do you need cash? What's best?

I added the tip onto my room charge because we always had a cocktail, beer or glass of wine. I also paid for my kids meals about half the time. It was easy. If you don't intend on charging to your room at all, cash would probably be better.

The dinning plan was great. After we spent $225.00 at La celler I felt a extra tip was needed. Service was great as was the food...

I too will be adding $$$ for good/great service - typically we tip about 20% at home and would continue to do so on vacation. For those who have used the dining plan? Does the receipt show a total amount if everything is covered by the dining plan? I got the impression from earlier postings that the receipt show $0.00??? Does your receipt show a total amount on the bill so that we can figure out appropriate tip?? I had also wanted to calculate how much we would have spent if OOP so that we could figure out if it would be worth it next time to pay for the plan in our trip planning.
