Oh my! I went to WDW my first time last September and without a doubt, the Boardwalk is my favorite place! There are a few shops, restaurants, coffee stands, sometimes live entertainment right there in front of you. They also have bicycle rentals so you can ride up and down the Boardwalk. Just the atmosphere - I love it, especially at night. And if you're a people-watcher like me, you'll find yourself very intrigued! :rolleyes1

I would go in the evening before sunset so you can watch the sunset over the lake and then enjoy the BW night lights too. There are any number of restaurants to choose from if you want to eat there. However, our fav evenings have been spent first walking around the entire BW, then BC/YC and connecting back at the BW. You could also rent a surrey bike and bike it. Then we shop in the various shops. If you haven't taken a walk through th BW or grounds, do this first. It is an amzing resort to behold! Then we get an ice cream cone. There are plenty of windows to get various snacks from if ice cream isn't your fav. Next we walk over to the bridge connecting BW to the YC and EPCOT entrance and watch what we can of Illuminations. Then we walk back to our rental car and go home! This makes for one relaxing and fun evening!

The boardwalk is an awesome area. There is shopping, restaurants, dance clubs, ESPN Club, entertainment (magicians, music), food stands, tables and benches, pizza take-out window, ice cream, candy shop, surrey bike rentals -- we love to rent bikes at night and watch Illuminations as we bike around the water. While on the boardwalk, you can also walk around a "loop" which will take you by Swan/Dolphin, YC, BC, Epcot international gateway. You can stop at Beaches and Cream which is an old fashioned soda shop at BC. There is a LOT to do and see over in that area.

Around sunset, DH and I like to catch a ride on the boat that goes from Epcot, to the Yacht/Beach Club, to the Swan/Dolphin, and on to MGM, then back. The entire circuit takes about an hour. It's a gorgeous ride at sunset, with all the reflections from the water and all the lights going on around the Boardwalk!

We haven't rented surreys yet, but they look like fun.

Like the posters above said the Boardwalk has so much to offer....
One of our favorite things to do is grab an icecream cone and watch the entertainers that frequently pass by on the boardwalk... also check out the ESPN zone.... (if your husband likes sports) there are tv's everywhere, the food is great and being on the DDP you get soooooooo much food you will be stuffed, so walking around is what you need after eating there...
