This will be our 4th trip with kid(s), but only one at this age and never flew without having child in a seat.
Please share if you've gone with kids this age and have any tips.
She sleeps well at night ,takes 2 naps, no bottles, drinks whole milk out of straw cup (this should work well for restaurants), not walking now(trip in 5 weeks). We are flying (lap seat, 2 hr direct flight) staying at WL, planning afternoon breaks or 3/4 days and also have a 5.5 year old DD. TIA!

No tips, but hoping you get some good ones, since my little one will be about 14 mos old when we go next summer. Luckily (I guess), dh hates disney, so I'm planning on him taking the baby back to the townhome every evening so the older kids and I can close the parks down!

We took DD last February for her 1st birthday. Something you might want to consider....earplugs. DD screamed during shows and fireworks. We were there for 3 days before we realized that the loud noises were bothering her. We bought some of the inexpensive wax plugs and she was happier the rest of the trip. We also found disposable changing pads to be really handy. I packed a few ziplocks with a diaper, a few wipes, and a changing pad, so that I could just grab a bag and change DD quickly. The lines for the changing tables can get long and I didn't feel quite as rushed with everything ready to go. I'd just toss everything after we were finished and didn't have to repack anything.

Have fun!!

DD was like your DD when we went. It was easy peasy. Seriously, it's a very easy time to take a baby. I don't think you really need any "tips." Just follow her cues (or words) and take what you'd normally need for a day out. I think we'll have a harder time taking our DD who'll be 22 months, and seems to be checking in to her terrible 2's early. :lmao:

Don't get stuck in rut trying to plan everything. we took our one year old and she would not nap in the room so we waisted a lot of time going back and forth to the room the first 3 days. She napped OK in her stroller or during shows. As soon as we got in a dark room she was out. Finding nemo was a nice long nap considering.

We did not get on as many rides as we usually do but we expected that. Just remeber be flexible and you will all have fun:wizard:

I am sooo happy to hear that. Our youngest will be 10mo when we go in June and he hates taking naps now, but took 2 good naps this past saturday in his stroller, while we were out shopping. It is a fight a lot of times to get him to take one. I was so up in the air about waisting time going back to the hotel if he wont take one. I figure if he gets very cranky in the park and just wont take one then we will head back, but if he takes one in the stroller, then one of us will just wait while the other rides the rides with the kids. We also have a sling I plan to carry him in some times.

That happened to us, too. DD was 14 months at the time, and she would NOT nap in the room. It was like she was trying to say "But Mommmmm, we're at DISNEY!" Meanwhile DH and I were about to pass out, lol. She did have a nap in Small World, though!

Our son was 14 months when we went in Dec. We had a 3 hour flight (1.5 hours connection, then 1.5 hours). We ended up getting stuck on the plane and missed our connection which was an all around nightmare, so a direct flight is great! We brought a portable DVD player on the plane along with snacks and he did great when we weren't waiting - FOREVER!

As far as at Disney, he did super. We just let him keep his own pace and didn't see a lot of stuff. We didn't go back to the room for his nap. He just napped in his stroller and we walked around where it was a little quieter. The only problem we had was him napping when we first got there. He was pooped every other day!

We used the FastPass and tried to not make him wait in line if possible.

DS was 14 months too and it was so easy to have him there. But, he was an easy baby. He'd sleep anywhere and was always a very happy-go-lucky baby. We didn't leave to go back to the room, but, we didn't stay all day either because it was June 20-28 and we were hot as he**, so the adults needed a break.

He enjoyed the shows, Small World, Pirates (except for the drop in the dark), Festival of the Lion King was the favorite.

Have a great time! We're taking DS back and he'll be a week away from 3 and I am so excited to see how he's different this time.

You will have a great time. Make sure you have a good reclining stroller so they can doze off whenever. Utilize the baby care centers if it gets too hot and they need a break. They all usually have Disney movies playing and have a play area where you can just let them be free for awhile. There is also never a wait to change diapers, etc because there are tons of changing tables available. Also make time to use the playgrounds, there is at least one in every park (the one in epcot is not for younger kids) And bring a change of clothes because your little one will want to get wet. There are several little water spray features all over each park. My sons favorite thing was getting wet so we let him take advantage of those. (I brought little water shoes so I wouldn't have to worry about his feet) Those are my tips for a great time and of course just go with the flow.

Just subscribing as we are looking for tips as well. We are taking our 4th trip to DW this June, but it will be the first with an 8 month old! Our DD is 6, but she has now been 3 times.

I'm hoping our son, the 8 month old, is able to handle 9 days without too much issue - he is pretty amiable, LOL. We don't have to worry about a flight this trip, as we are driving due to costs and a few other things.

I'm guessing this will be a different\interesting trip if nothing else!

If your DD naps in her stroller, I highly recommend the Rayshade. When DD was tired, we would pull the shade down, leaving the back opened enough to allow air to flow through, and she would sleep so well - through parades, fireworks and even Illuminations!

For the flight, buy some new small toys or hide some that she really likes and don't bring them out until you're on the plane - she'll be excited by the "newness" of the toys and that should keep her occupied for a while. Try to change her as close to boarding as possible to try to avoid in-flight changes. We did this during both flights, but both times DD needed a mid-flight change anyway.

Disposable everything! Sippies, snack bowls, spoons, forks, table toppers (placemats), changing pads & bibs. We really only tossed the table toppers, changing pads & bibs, but it was nice knowing that if something got very messy or we didn't have time to wash it, it could be thrown away and the hard plastic items are recyclable so that was nice.

I was more go with the flow but DH tried to get us back to the room everynight by 6pm so that DD could have dinner and go to bed. Finally, on our 3rd night, I convinced him to stay out and she fell asleep and stayed asleep even on the bus ride and while we changed her for bed.

BTW - our DD was 8.5 months old when we went.

Well, we are back and here's my update:

Plane ride down was HORRIBLE - she screamed for a solid hour like I have never heard her scream. I think the problem was it was during AM nap time and she just doesn't nap in our arms. We had a million toys, books (new and old), every possible food, lollipops (which she kind of liked but had a sticky mess all over both of us and herself). The way back was better but not great. We didnt try a DVD because she has never watched TV and I don't think it would hold her interest - I tried a few minutes before we left and she could care less. DD5 watched a movie on the ipod and DD1 ignored it but it is a small screen.

She napped in the stroller (which amazed me) so some days we did 3/4 days leaving for an afternoon nap or right after and I think just one day we went back for the PM nap. Her bedtime is 7 and she went to bed between 7-8 most nights, 9:45 one night. It would have been way easier if she only needed one nap a day but she really still needs that AM nap. We didn't have any late evening stuff planned so that worked out fine. One thing that was a pain was not being able to take the stroller in many attractions when she napped so we went in shops, one parent sat with her while the other went on rides with our older DD, or we had a snack, one time we spent over an hour on rocking chairs on a porch shop which was nice.

We had a city mini double stroller from orlando stroller rental and it was awesome - we took it one day we didn't need the double just because she napped so well in it and it had such a generous sun shade. We also had an ESPRIT speed sun (like Maclaren triumph).

No sippies needed because she drinks out of a straw and I would recommend that route - it is just so much easier. We had disposable bibs and the stick on table covers for every meal and that worked out well. She ate our food and we usually ordered her a milk which I think we only got charged for once. Most restaurants do have whole milk and then the mickey milk which is 1% and some have skim too. At Tutto Italio, under 3 can order an entree (no sides) for free. We were on the DDP.

DD does some sign language (baby signs) and I just love this. I taught her the sign for mickey mouse before we left and it was so cool to see her all excited and doing the mickey sign there. One day she was drinking milk and stopped and kept pointing to the carton and bouncing in her high chair. She kept signing "milk" and "mickey mouse" because she saw the picture of mickey on the box of milk. She loved the princesses too and I meant to teach her a sign for princess but I forgot to look it up (she gets excited when she sees DD5's princess stuff at home). She also said "pooh" and "balloon" about a million times there.

Night: She fell asleep in pack n play ok but if we were still in the room, she'd stick her head up and call for us laughing. She did better if we went out on the porch til she fell asleep.

Interesting thing on characters: I was told she could not stand with the characters if she didn't have shoes on (I had to hold her). She is not walking yet so I didn't usually have her in shoes but brought them for playing in play areas.

She will not wear a sunhat at all (although I had one for each outfit!) and I think the sun bothered her eyes a little. I covered her in sunscreen each morning and then reapplied with a spray (she loved the spray) every couple hours and she didn't even get a bit of tan.

We ordered groceries from garden grocer and had breakfast in the room each day. Both kids are hungry first thing so this worked out great. I brought an inflatable booster thing that she sat on and it was a good thing because even my 5 year old had a hard time reaching the table. Also having some beer and snacks was nice for us to enjoy on the deck since we had early nights.

We didn't take a diaper bag to the parks - just a pack with diapers and wipes (I forgot a changing pad though!!!), and a granola bar - often she was hungry (signing furiously) and we weren't ready to eat yet. We also took her security bankie with us - it helps her fall asleep - we let her have it too much (take on rides, etc) but it really helped her be content when she was not fully rested (if nap was short). At home, it is for in the crib only.

It was an enjoyable trip I think she loved the people, characters, meals, rides, pool (although often missed because she was napping), family time, etc. It was a nice age but not super easy because of her schedule (and becoming a beast off schedule). However, we go to Disney every 1-2 years and we didn't have too much of an agenda, didn't do any night activities, and just took it easy.

I'm glad you had such a great trip! Sounds like things went really well with the exception of the plane ride. If you fly again, maybe you should try ear plugs (ear planes plugs are great! I've used them myself!). The cabin pressure changes may have been the cause of your DD screaming if her ears weren't popping. Again, glad you had a great time!
