Mt husband has just surprised me with a trip to WDW 7/25-7/28 :cloud9: . The problem that I am really worried about is the heat. We normally go to WDW either in March or October so the heat is not really a factor. We live in Alabama so I know all about the heat and humidity  . I am wondering if there are any tips for surviving the heat at Disney.

We went to WDW last June and had a very difficult time with the heat and himidity. My son ended up with heat stroke at the MK one night. I would suggest staying hydrated, misting fans, going back to the room or a water park during the hottest part of the day, wear light colored clothing, don't over due it, and spend time in air conditioned buildings and rides when possible. Go knowing it is going to be hot and humid will mentally prepare you. Have fun!!

Water, water, water. Drink plenty of water; it's very easy to get dehydrated in WDW in the summer.

Who else has tips?

I great way to make sure you always have drinking water with you. You just take the bottles with you and it filters as you drink. I have a few of them. Great Product!!

I am planning to use kewl ties (Crafty wench website) this Aug. You soak them in cold water and they supposedly stay cool for hours. You wear the tie around your neck. There are other brands, too...mira-cool, maybe? I haven't used them yet, read about them here on the Dis.

I also read about a small misting fan, almost the size of a water pistol.....with a small foam fan on it and a carabiner so it can clip onto a belt or bag. I ordered them from Sharper Image. Again, haven't used them yet, but seems worth a try to me!

Good luck! Maybe I'll see you in Aug! :hourglass

Thanks for the tips so far.
Dopeynme I am going to Wal-Mart tomorrow to buy some of their ties. My husband has been out in the heat tons lately and loves them.
We are also taking a Camelback that he has been using to keep water in.

Anybody else got some tips for me and others that may need them?

Beware of the cool ties from Wally World (aka Wal-Mart)...I've heard that they ooze a grody gel all over your neck if they are over filled or something...

I'm going to be at Disney World in August too!!! Definitely looking for ways to keep cool!

I suggest staying in your air conditioned hotel room and snuggling with your new husband...oh wait...that's just me! ;) :bride: :groom:  :smokin: :rotfl:

I went to Disney last June and it gets pretty hot in Michigan in the summer, so over the years, I've found a few ways to keep cool.

-Those cheapo mini fans with the foam blades REALLY WORK! I got one at wal mart for like, a dollar.
-keep a damp wash cloth in a ziploc bag and use it to cool down in the parks, it also makes you feel a lot cleaner after sweating.
-rub ice or anything else that's cold over the insides of your wrists, it cools down one of the body's main arteries, so it can help lower your body's temp all over.
- Use sunblock. It actually has been proven to keep you cooler
-Stay hydrated (DUH)
-If it gets super hot, go inside one of the shops for a while or get something to drink and sit down. Don't go and get yourself sick at disney.
-If all else fails, eat lots of Dole Whip, which is the best way to stay cool

we usually go in the fall. only been in the summer 1x & it was hot, but the neck things REALLY helped!!! we got ours in the sporting goods dept. at wal-mart

I would drink some powerade or gatorade before going to the park or take some with you.
You can always ask for a glass of ice I have heard that most places will give ice for free. I would suck on the ice and put some down your shirt and rub some over you neck.
Wear a hat. Take lots of breaks.
If you have a fridge in your room froze a bottle of water and that way as it melts through out the day you will have ice cold water. You can also use the frozen water bottle to rub over your body to cool you down

We used walmart neck coolers with the jell last year and never had anything ooze out of it. I read somewhere that it is when you only soak them for a short period of time that they may ooze. Maybe because the beads don't get big enough? We filled up our ice bucket and soaked them in there overnight with no problems and they stayed really cold almost all day that way. HTH

It's almost like a game of musical chairs for me. Whenever the heat really gets to me, I go to the nearest indoor attraction, no matter what it is. Other than that, just try to stay in the shade as much as possible, and keep hydrated. :thumbsup2

I'm happy to hear the good news about those Walmart misting fans. We'll be in Disney World the first week in August. I happened to see the fans in Walmart a few days ago and bought one. They were in the tool department, near the other fans. Tried it out at home, LOVED it, went back and bought 5 more.

I put aside extra AA batteries to take with me. The fans can be easily refilled with water at water fountains. There will be three of us and one is my sweaty 7 year old grandson. I know the fans will get a lot of use while we are standing in lines. :sunny:

Here is an idea ...... We go in early Sept.

Either bring along a face cloth from the hotel or buy one of those magic towels (face cloth size) and a sandwich size zip lock baggie. I notice if I wet it and apply it to my face, neck, wrists, ankles, feet (if no sneakers) really cools me off.

We also have those mini misting fans from Walmart that have the carabina clip. I think we paid $2.44.

I'm sure all of you already know this but also avoid caffeine (soda & coffee) they are dehydrating.

We usually get to the park just before opening, and leave around noon when it gets hotter and the crowds pick up, either go for a swim or back to the room for the A/C, then go back to the parks around 4pm.

Hope you have a great trip! :Pinkbounc

We take lots of "short cuts" through the air conditioned shops. :goodvibes

the camel backs are good and I used a backpack that was full of frozen water bottles. We also used the misting fans that you fill with water. We would fill our fan wth ice water and it feels good. Wide hats always work good.

first post not to sure about things yet but will try. just returned from trip 7/7-7/16with dw, ds 4. it was hot! to beat the heat when it gets to hot we would go shopping or to a show or on a ride. we also tried to leave the park in the early afternoon to take a nap. (ds stayed much happier). :goodvibes we would return to the parks for evening fun usualy for emh. was much cooler and less crowded. also water, water, water!
