Okay, I have been three times to WDW but never in summer. Please give me tips and encouragement for dealing with the new issues I have never faced:

How to deal with Mosquitos and Noseeums----will I not enjoy the view from the Poly beach because of bugs? What to use that doesn't smell if possible?

How to deal with heat?

Anyone have summer trip tips?

Mosquitos are not usually a problem, Disney sprays. As to dealing with the heat, be sure to consume lots of water. When it gets too hot and people get cranky, go back to the resort and swim or chill out in your room. The trick is to not overdo it and end up getting sick from the heat/humidity. Pace yourselves and wear sunblock. You will be under a troopical sun and you will get burned badly if you don't take precautions.

But most of all, have fun!!!

I always carry a small umbrella because it rains almost every day for a little while in the afternoons. Also some of those disposable ponchos (they are small enough to carry every day).

Lots of underwear! You will take 2 + showers per day. Have fun!! We will probably be down late August.

I stayed at the Poly last summer. I was never bothered my any mosquitoes. I really didn't find the intense heat to be much of a problem. If I did, I wouldn't be returning this July! My advice is to hit the parks at opening and do as much as you can. Make a ps for a late lunch and head back to your resort to swim during the very hot hours. Then, go back out in the evening when it's cooler. Also, we brought a big insulated jug of water. I guess bringing a jug is ok because I showed it to the cm's at the gate and they said it was fine.

Never been bothered by mosquitos either. I took bug spray, but i don't remember using it too much.

Heat can be a problem, but only if you let it. I always seem to go at the hottest times of the year. Here are my recommendations:
1. Don't get burned!! It makes you even hotter:sunny:
2. Take water bottles and fill them up A LOT!
3. Keep dollars on hand for the ice cream salesmen!
4. Go on the inside rides between 12 and 2
5. Eat inside! It is amazing how much better you will feel after sitting down in an air conditioned cafeteria for 20 minutes and eat a good meal. It really gives you a boost to keep going.
6. save your water rides for the middle of the day. some people go on them first and then when it gets hot, they are in line for other rides.
7. ALWAYS have at least one of those water fans in your group. You can buy them at wal mart for 4.00. They are a little more in the park, but I would definitely pay for them because they make everyone a little happier. We even squirt the people around us that look a little hot. They are always very thankful. We find that people follow behind us as we are walking so they will be squirted with the extra spray. LOL::yes::
8.Bring extra socks. We even bring flip flops for wet rides. There is nothing like hot, wet, steamy feet. YUCK
9. Sometimes, we even pack washcloths in ziplocks. We get them cold in the bathroom and wash our face. It is so refreshing.
10. You can buy these neck things that look like bandanas at walmart for around 2.00. You run them under cold water and it keeps your neck cold. We tried them last time and they really Work!!
Hope this helps!

One of the nice things about going in the summer is the longer park hours. I'm am not an early entry kind of person, we like to get up, have a good breakfast then hit the parks. With the longer hours in the summer, when you get tired, over heated, ect go back to your room, go for a swim, shower, then head back over to the park in the evening.
The biggest thing to remember is to drink lots of water!!
It was really hard to get my kids to drink water, for some reason they just didn't feel thirsty, but they would start to have frequent melt downs, and I know it was due to dehydration, so we started to make games out of drinking water. How far will the water bottle squirt, can you hit someone's mouth at 2 ft., 3 ft., ect., who can drink down to the third line on the bottle the fastest. We got a little wet, we had alot of fun, but the melt downs stopped after we started the water games.
At Epcot take a break and let the kids play in the water area. Last year I saw so many kids walking by with longing in their eyes, the parents were like no you can't get wet, I don't have dry clothes for you, plan ahead.
We will be there the first week in May this year, not sure what the weather will be like, but if you see a wet family, playing water games, having a great time that will be us.

Never had a problem with mosquitoes either.

Wear light clothes

Pack a bunch of inexpensive white washclothes. Put a few in your pack each day. Soak one and use it to cool off hot faces or put it around the neck of a too hot child.

Get to the parks EARLY (lines and heat are NOT a problem for the first few hours most days)

Drink lots

Take a break in the hottest part of the day either at your resort or save the indoor shows for then.

Take along extra clothes and store them in a locker at the park if you think the kids (or the grownups) might enjoy getting wet when the opportunity arises.

Wear good athletic sandals (Teva, Merrell, Nike Straprunner) rather than sneakers and socks. It's amazing how much cooler you can feel if your feet are comfy - and if your feet get wet they'll dry right away.

Don't overeat in the heat. Smaller meals cause less stress on the body.

This not only helps but makes me feel better about the trip!

We take a half gallon insulated water jug with us into the park with distilled water in it and drink all the time. You can also buy a Brita Water Bottle that has a filter to get rid of the bad tasting water. We always take a break in the afternoon in the room and go to the pool to cool down. Make sure to get tickets that include a trip to the water parks. This is one of the best ways to stay cool! We try to go on rides that get us wet when we get really hot. We use SPF 30 sunscreen and have never been burned in the 15 times we've been in the summer. (remember to reapply throughout the day)
