Tips for Staying at Old Key West?

What are you looking for? Are you staying on points or through Disney? What sized villa do you have? How many in your party and what ages?

In general I would say, relax and enjoy the laid back feeling that is truly OKW. It is not Disney themed as most other resorts. It is just a nice DVC with a feeling that you are just where you are....Florida. It is not trying to be a beach club or a horse ranch, it is just Florida.

I really like getting up very early and having a cup of java on the patio and watching the sun come up. The pace is slower at OKW, people are very nice! They have a great towel animal class at the activity center on Sat. Morning at 10am??? Bingo by the poolside and a very fun pool. The pool is not spectacular like BCV nor does it have a long slide but our 4 yr is safe and loves both.

Having a wash machine is nice because you pack less clothes, huge bathroom in the master with a jetted tub. The kitchen is nice the furniture is average and bit cheesy but with so many people coming thru I understand not having quality fabrics.

I hope this helps. Yes, I do own at OKW.:woohoo:

I am actually asking for my niece and her parents. They are staying there for a couple of days in late July. Since she works for ESPN, she has GREAT WDW perks.

It looks like a relaxing place from the pictures I've seen. Just looking to pass on some tips. They're not quite as Disney crazed as I am! ;)

Thanks,
penny

If they have a one bedroom villa or larger, they are going to love the porch. It's very large and has a full sized table and four chairs on it. It's a wonderful way to start out the day by eating breakfast or just enjoying your coffee while watching the groundskeepers get the golf course spruced up for the day. And sitting out there in the evening is also very pleasant.

There is a pool for each section and the Turtle Pond pool is the largest of the three non-themed pools. There is an small counter service location there that is open seasonally.

You can hop any bus to the Hospitality House since they all stop there last. Or you can hop an Internal or DTD bus at the Hospitality House before it makes the rounds of the resort. But it is an easy walk from anywhere to the themed pool, Olivia's, Goods to Go, the store and the Hospitality House.

There is a boat that goes back and forth to DTD with a stop at SSR first. You can also rent watercraft, bikes and surrey bikes there, too.

I don't know if this is still the case, since I haven't stayed there in a few years, but for getting back to your room from the main pool area you used to be able to walk to the Peninsular (sp?) Road stop and hop on any bus. I think that worked for all stops except one that was before Peninsular. You can see if it's still the case by noting the order of the stops when you're coming back to OKW from a park.

That's another way to get back to your room. If you are staying near the Hospitality House area, you can always get off the bus at Peninsular Road and walk back to your villa instead of waiting for the last stop on non-Internal/DTD buses.
