Tips for quitting smoking. UPDATE PAGE 2

Really? I thought the nicotine was out in 48 to 72 hours? So it would be a bad idea to stop the wellbutrin then, huh?

Don't get over-confident. I remember going in to my dr's office after about 10 days or so and saying "This has been surprisingly easy". It takes about three weeks for the withdrawal to hit you hard. I don't want you to be surprised like I was.
That sounds about right. It took me about 2-3 weeks until I hit the wall. You have to prepare yourself mentally for that so you don't give in.

2-3 weeks, huh? Okay, I guess I'll stay on the meds then. When I've quit in the past, I haven't had a problem after like day 2 (once when prego, and once after bronchitis). I'll trust you guys though.

I quit cold turkey, so I'm not sure how the wellbutrin works.

Well, it's been 8 days now. Don't know if it's the wellbutrin or not, but this has pretty much been a piece of cake. I'm counting myself as really lucky!

Thanks for the support!

I quit the same way, it will be 3 years in october, and the whole thing was very easy, it was kind of strange actually, but hey it worked so I'm not complaining. I had tried patches and cold turkey and those didn't work for me, I think different things work for different people.

keep it going, good luck

Congratulations sweet angel on quitting! Keep up the good attitude and you will succeed! I quit 8 yrs ago by praying my cravings away. I also started chewing gum quite a bit more often. There have been some great suggestions on this thread with changing your routine, etc. Definitely try to fill your old habit with a new healthy one (ie. exercising, etc)...don't fill the void with eating!
I firmly believe that once you quit, don't ever fool yourself into thinking you can "have just one"...I had quit a few times before and "that one" always ended up being more like that one (or 2) pack a day habit again. Every now and then I've had occasions where I've thought of bumming one off of a friend, and then I come back to my senses! I've gone way too long without to start all over again.

Congrats on quitting!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: You are doing great!!

Thanks everybody. Honestly, this has been super easy this time. I'm on day -- um --12, and can't remember when the last time was that I even gave it a thought.

DBF still is smoking and it really smells gross to me when he comes back in the house. P.U.!

So glad to hear its been so easy for you. I honestly felt the same way when I quit 2 years ago, I wondered why I didn't do it years ago since it was so easy for me. Warning, though, I started craving cigarettes about 4 months later while I was on vacation. For me, vacation was always associated with relaxation, and in those first 4 months of quitting I did very little relaxing. I kept myself busy with working out and running and just doing whatever I could to keep myself busy. Once I got on vacation I all the sudden wanted a smoke so bad. Ugh, I still remember that vacation and how painful it was, but I got through it, and you will too when you run across a "trigger". Its all in the mindset, you think of yourself as a non-smoker, and thats all it takes. The mantra "never ever have one" was one I said over and over again, because I knew that was crucial to my success. Now 2 years later I rarely to never think about cigarettes, and never crave them. I know I will never smoke again, I've made it to that point thank God. Wishing you the same long term success! :) You have a great attitude, keep it up! :)

Good point. I'll keep that in mind for my cruise in November. Thanks for the tip.

Congratulations! You're doing great. I think that a big part of my success was changing my routines--if you usually smoke while doing a certain activity, then change that activity.

I got through it by picking up hobbies. :teeth: If your hands are busy embroidering, knitting, crocheting, or scrapbooking, it's hard to smoke at the same time.

Everybody got scarves for Christmas that year! :teeth:
